In the 88 the cartridge over all length needs to be 2.8 inches or less if it is like mine. Pressure should not be a problem, it should take anything a bolt rifle will staying within max load recommendations.

I have slugged three CB barrells , came out at .457 and .450 plus or minus about 2 ten thousndths. All of them had tight spots at the dovetails to some degree.

Unless you are deep into bench rest shooting it does not make much difference what you use-short and fat or long and slender. In a decent rifle they will all shoot better than most of us can hold. Yes, it was an easy one to fill the bill with. Since the rules have changed again effective this fall I have came up with another case based on the 444 marlin necked to .375 at 1.8 inches long. For what it is worth when I was in Alaska the local natives used the 30-30 and never looked back, it was what they had
on hand and it worked. I used a 30-06 to very good effect on the one I took.

38-55 brass will make a 32-40 case that is just a little long, 375 win.cases come out short and also have less powder capacity

If you want to shoot jacketed bullets Buffalo Arms has them in 200 grain like what the originals were. Hornady stopped making them a number of years ago.

We all probably read the same articles on deflection after hitting "stuff". What I took from the article I read many years ago, and filed away in memory, is that the faster the twist the less the deflection. That's why the 45-70 would have fared rather poorly... I think this has merit and...

I have not had parallax problems at the range mentioned with any quality shotgun scope, has not been much of a factor until 200 yards and beyond. When I lived in Alaska most of the locals carried Lever Guns-usually 1886's.A fair number carried Win. 1894's if they did not expect trouble from claws.
