Re: Question = Zulu time

For most of history time was simple. Noon was when the sun was overhead. The next time the sun was overhead was considered one day. The day was divided into 24 hour. So the earth was divided into 24 time zones. So far so good. When it is necessary for people around the world in different time zones ...

Re: How to catch the brass.

I have seen 45 auto shooter put a tarp down at the ranger. I am shooting a 357 /38 top eject off a bench and I have not found a way to work the lever and catch the shell. I have directed them at an open gun case with some success but a few of the errant cases will fly wild. I know it may sound silly...

How to catch the brass.

When the lever gun ejects, especially the top eject models, how do you catch the brass?

I find that shiny brass and nickel a master at bidding in the grass. Even when it has been recently mowed. :x :x

Lead bullets in 357 mag rifle.

I am on the hunt for a 357 mag lever gun. I shoot light handgun loads at about 800 ft/sec. I am assuming that my handgun loads will work in a lever gun without leading up the bore etc. I never needed the advantages of jacketed bullet expansion and killing power to punch holes in paper. I was curious...

Re: Shotgun Powder Woes

The problem is if you store it, I cannot buy it and it remains in short supply.

It is the same with 22s. They hit the market and folks buy five times what they need in a lifetime.

This does little to encourage the new comers to the sport.

Re: Smokeless In BP

Yes, there were some muzzleloaders that were designed for smokeless and there are some black powder era arms that can handle and have indeed have even been proofed for black powder. The old timers will even tell you of duplex loads of black and smokeless. All of this makes for fine conversation but i...

Henry, Rossi and Marlins Oh My

How many time has this been asked? I am looking for a levergun in .357 mag. I will use it mostly for target shooting, probably 38spl. which I have a lot of. I like the steel framed Henry because it is US made side eject and has a reputation for good wood and accuracy. I like the Marlin Cowboy for it...

I use whatever primers are available. Usually CCI. Cowboy loads do not seem to be fussy.

Re: "The Revenant" Movie

From my experience Hollywood will never make a movie for history buffs. For one thing it would be boring or as a friend of mine once commented, with two history buffs you have three different opinions with three you have nine and with four history buffs the number of opinions is infinite. A bit of a...

Re: "The Revenant" Movie

As a reenactor I could be knit picky a bout a few things but who cares. As a history buff I could comment on the artistic license with the historic record, but again who cares. If they had made the movie about about a hypothetical mountain man named Sam Jones, it would not have been an issue. The mo...

Re: Sticks and stones... And mud...

My question is why? I have spent plenty of time in lean-tos and tents. They serve their purpose for temporary shelters. If I were to spend my time just proving “I could”, I think I would try paper mache and exterior paint. Maybe not as natural but you could really get creative. He does get an...

Re: Remington/Marlin merger.

Okay so much for the blood letting and complaining, my original question is, if I go into the gun shop and buy a new made .357 Marlin Cowboy, + Will it function any less reliably than before the merger? + Will be as accurate as before. + Will it have a decent trigger pull. It is fine to have well fi...

Re: Question: why was Marlin sold in the first place??

The reason I asked about black guns is lever guns seem to appeal to just a limited group of people. The cowboy action boom created a resurgence for sure but in businesses your growth depends on your next product. Just like a fine side x side, double trigger, straight grip shotgun; they have a very l...

Re: Question: why was Marlin sold in the first place??

One thing that nobody has mentioned is what percentage of the black gun market did Marlin have? Sure, us old duffers like fine wood and metal but where is the rail on the 336 to hang my do-dad from? We will never know the exact reason why, but it is safe to assume "it seemed like a good...

Re: Remington/Marlin merger.

Sad to say I have heard all this B.S. before going back to the redesign of the model 70's in the 1960's.

I am looking for a decent side ejecting .357 lever gun, for informal target shooting. I may eventually add a scope. That leaves me with a Marlin or a Henry.

Remington/Marlin merger.

Has anyone noticed a difference in the Marlin lever guns since the Remington merger?

I am talking quality and accuracy differences not opinions and whining about the good old days.

Re: NEW Japan 1866 Winchester ...$3200.00

While it is true that to a future Winchester collector, a foreign made Winny will never hold the charm and value of a U.S. made gun. To the average shooter the Winchester name will prevail. Simply look at today's offerings in ascending value, Rossi, Marlin, Henry and Winchester; each has its fans an...

Re: NEW Japan 1866 Winchester ...$3200.00

It is not where it is made, it is how it it made. Technology is world wide. The same pair of hands can make junk or jewels, depending the desires of their management. Twenty years from now, the "Winchester" will be valued, simply because it is a Winchester. Where it was made means little a...

I remember getting one of those behemoths for Christmas as a teenager; I was irritated because the only music on the air was those darn Christmas songs.

Oh the impatience of youth.

Which .357 Lever Gun.

I am sure this is and old question but it is new to me. After the holidays I am going to bite the bullet on a lever gun. I am looking for a .357 to match my pistol. I rarely hunt but I do a lot of target shooting. I have perused the internet until my head is swimming with opinions on Rossi, Marlin a...
