Eyeball it on a bench grinder. Takes about two seconds each. I do it mostly taking FMJ tips off milsurp ammo to make hunting bullets. They look just like 30-30 ammo when done. Yea, the lead gets into the grinding wheel but I zap it with another piece of iron and throw some sparks and that seems to c...

Beretta's new Westerm Lever, Pump and Wheelgun rifle
I was poking around their website and saw some new to me Beretta designs that are probably way expensive. I'd guess but have no idea that someone else has made these for Beretta. They look pretty darn good to me. I dont see a way to upload the pics so I can just advise going to their website and loo...

OT - Two hands pistol hold- When ?
Last week there was reference to an old 1957 gun magazine that had lots of neat stuff but what I noticed was that the competitive pistol shooters were all holding their pistols with one hand. I dont see that today and maybe there are matches where one hand hold is required ... I dont know. If not, w...

Most realistic wild west TV shootout
If hollywood ever made you mad because they made it look like guns could shoot hundreds of rounds without reloading...... I mentioned this last week roughly but at http://HULU.com they are showing some old episodes of favorite TV shows. I found an old western series called Alias Smith and Jones and ...

I watched a few of the McHales episodes today and was initially surprised when they refered to the Japs as Nips. That wouldnt ever happen today I dont think with all the politically correct stuff going on. I thusly dont hold much hope of COMBAT with Vic Morrow being included because they referred to...

Highest velocity 45/70 loads
A year or so ago I was talking with a Barnes technician ( strictly off the record privately ) who was working with his 32 inch H&R buffalo classic and their lightest 45/70 bullet. I cant remember either the bullet details or any of his loadings but I seem to recall he was using some powders that...

Aguilla has the highest velocity 22 Long Rifle option currently on the market and it really makes a difference if you hit what you are shooting at. I have a Marlin, Savage, and 10/22 and do a lot of bench rest shooting and in all three guns, the groups were 6 inchs larger than other hi vel 22 ammo. ...

Using the Marlin 336 advertisement in the magazine as the standard of comparison, I figure todays prices are approx ten times what they were in 1957. Thusly the Colt 45 1911 pistol would be $440 todays equivalent brand new. I always suspected those pistols are artificially price inflated compared to...

I believe the 444 shooting pistol bullets designed to expand at pistol velocities are probably the most destructive projectile ever fired at deer. Probably should be limited to head shots only if intention is to consume meat. There have been many vigorous discussions about what a bad idea it is but ...

From what I hear our obsession with the 1911 has a lot to do with rooting for the home team or some type of patriotic inclination or maybe old time nostalgia. I dont know a lot about pistol technology but isnt it true more militarys and police around the world (that can have any pistol they want) ch...

There is fuel to the argument for head shots in this article as well as use of copper bullets I suppose. I am surprised that the author is both a doctor AND a hunter so he must have some understanding of the physics of terminal ballistics. Specifically, if you shoot an animal in some place other tha...

If you don't subscribe to the CBA Fouling Shot - here is a condensed version: A favorite of lawmen and deer slayers alike, .30-30 lever-guns defended our Home Front in two World Wars, fed a then-mostly rural nation and still have utility for sport and home protection. seems to me there is a big overlap between both calibers in bullets from 250 gr to 350 gr with the 444 being able to shoot pistol bullets much lighter and the 45/70 able to shoot up to 500 grain. In the 350-350 grain overlap range both could be hand loaded to do essentially the same thing. I do like...

Sometimes I just get sick and tired of how loud our guns are and we hardly ever talk about it.
