Re: New 30-30 Dies - Need Hunting Bullet Recommendations
Those 170 gr Speer bullets you are looking at have a pretty high ballistic coefficient for a flat nose. I think it would be a good choice for most anything a 30-30 is appropriate for. There’s a Nosler Partition 170 grain if you want something a bit tougher or Hornady FTX 160 grain if you want someth...

Re: On the Ruger M77 Series (short video)
I have two tang safety M77s and two Hawkeyes, all good rifles with the Hawkeye action being the best overall. I never cared for the heavy triggers and rough actions of the Mark II 77s I handled at the time. I also have an early 77/22 with the hard plastic butt plate

Re: Hornady XTP vs. Speer Deep Curl
From those pics and velocities, one could assume the 270 grain Speer will likely not expand from a handgun, at least not in the medium they tested these in. That bullet seems pretty tough and some use it in 444 Marlin. The 240 xtp is obviously much softer

Re: Hornady XTP vs. Speer Deep Curl
The 270 grain 44 feeds very smoothly through my Marlin and showed good accuracy. I don’t have any kills with it to report though. I would think it would at least be in the same league as the 300 grain XTP, maybe better I don’t know.

Good luck finding anything that small broken off in the briars and honeysuckle of an eastern NC cutdown. It’s much more practical to use a bead to start with. I like to hunt but not for parts of my gun. I suppose one could be more gingerly in some pursuits, but what about when the rifle is slung and...

There are many similarities, but they are not all the same. Take your time and find out what you like. If you are just getting one, get exactly what you want....
