Auto round in a revolver

Anybody here ever have the bullet jump and lock up the cylinder ?

Doesn't even take an auto round. Any round with too light of a charge can do this, or a round with too light a crimp.

I was thinking if I bought a 10 mm revolver that uses moon clips , I could reload lead bullets designed for the 38 / 40, I could build them as usual , but seat and roll crimp using a 38/40 seating die , make sense ?

I've not had that happen but I have shot a 9mm in a 40 cal Glock, no reloading that case!

They are steel????

No, I have not seen it happen with my 45 acp revolver. I haven’t tried my taper crimped lead bullet loads yet. Some guys shoot 45 Super in these.

I have been using 10 mm and 45 acp moon clips for years. Have not worn any out yet. the only person I know who may have worn out moon clips is Jerry Miculek.

My thought was , if I ever see a used 10 mm at a good price I’d pick it up.
As you can shoot 10’s and 40 s&w , it’s like having a 357 and you shoot 38’s.
I had planned on lead bullets , but was concerned they might slip forward without a good crimp.

I have shot 9mm in a Ruger Blackhawk 357 Mag (with the appropriate cylinder), and 45 ACP in a Ruger Redhawk 45 Colt/ACP with its fancy dual-cartridge system and 9mm in a Ruger LCR that only fires 9mm (full moon clips). Probably only 500 rounds total for all three combined though. So far no issues, but I could see the potential.

Was really surprised that someone suggested the clips wore out

Word has it the Ruger GP100, at some point, has alterations to a different barrel shank thread in the 10mm models.....to increase strength in design on the forcing cone and frame.

The 44 special GP100 was quite intriguing, but I shyed away after reports of people having forcing cone problems w standard ammo.

I'd take a 357mag running full throttle over a standard load 44 special anyday. Its the medium power 44 special loads I find sweet....just a tad behind the 44 mag stuff and that GP is not an appropriate choice for such a diet.

I had a 1937 Brazilian S&W for awhile, and used it to shoot all my standard and heavy 45 ACP reloads and factory loads through it, including some energetic +P loads with 230 and 255 grain bullets.

I used the Rimz plastic clips for general shooting and standard steel ones for carry/field carry. I never had a lick of trouble out of any of them and certainly never experienced 'bullet pull' under recoil.

I don't think you'd even need to roll crimp to keep bullets from pulling under recoil. A good taper crimp keeps my 45Auto loads from pulling.

I don't think you'd even need to roll crimp to keep bullets from pulling under recoil. A good taper crimp keeps my 45Auto loads from pulling.

I forgot to mention it, but all the reloads used in the '37 Brazilian were taper crimped using a RCBS taper crimp die. I've also used it for 45 Colt with bullets that didn't have a cannelure or crimp groove. Never had a problem with any of them, loaded light or heavy.
