Re: Your choice of carry gun?

When working I am restricted to a Sig 229 in .357 Sig, a Glock .43 (back up), and 5.56 rifle (if needed) or Remington 870 Police Magnum. Of on my own, it depends where I am or what I am doing. In Alaska at the farm, I carry a 3in 629 .44 Mag or a Glock 30SF with a Bar-Sto 10mm barrel. In Arizona ar...

Ive toyed with 6.5 but honestly, unless you are shooting past 500 yards, the 308 is a better round. Plus, 308 allows you to use heavier projectiles. The 6.5 maxes out around 140.

Re: Which of the AR-15 "big bores"

As one who has owned all 3: The 450 shoots flatter and longer than 458/50. It also has less recoil and is easier to reload. 458 has a much better selection of projectiles and is more powerful. 50B was a waste, it cant do anything the other cant do and is considerably more expensive to shoot. Ive used them repeatedly in a 44 mag levergun. They worked quite well but did discover they needed to hit something substantial to fascilitate expansion. A first couple broadside shots barely expanded but if i used quartering shots or shoulders they expanded perfectly

While i like the idea of adding more calibers to the lever gun community i cant see paying $2000+ for a levergun. Especially since it wont do anything a 444, 450, or 45-70 wont do....at least for my hunting needs. That being said, i do like the shorter cartridge.

I have a miroku 1873 in 357 mag with 24" barrel that literally has 10,000+ rounds through it. It has never, not once, had a failure to feed using 357 or 38s.
