Re: Need help re W94 SN
If you remove the forearm and mag tube, you will find a number stamped on the flat of the barrel. That will at least tell you the barrel age and get you closer to year of manufacture. I'm kind of leary of taking the forearm and mag tube off, I've heard it might be rather difficult to get them back ...

Re: Need help re W94 SN
Thanks, guys. I guess I'll just have to settle for sometime in the '40s, then. Oh, well. BTW, It's in really good shape with a couple worn blueing marks on the barrel from being stored in a couple different gun racks, and a fair amount worn off the receiver from being carried. Doesn't look like it's...

Need help re W94 SN
Just picked up a Winchester 94, SN #1333***, which I just ran through the Win. Serial Number site, and came up with Manufacture date of 1943 through 1948. I was told it was made in 1941.
Can anybody here help me narrow it down a bit?
TIA,

I've been using a load of 9.0gr TB with Hornady 86gr JSP in my Winchester 30/30 for a few months now with pretty good results out to 50yds so far. Haven't tried it out to 100yds yet.

Re: OT Pre 64 Winchester model 70 question
My Grandfather had a pre-64 M70 made in 1941, barrel marked .30 Government 06, that likely came from the factory with the steel butt plate. I don't blame him one little bit for swapping that for one of those butt pads you mentioned. I wouldn't want to shoot a 180gr factory load out of an '06 with a ...

for DBW . . . I think when bad times I'll be going with my brace of .357s, my 92 and Ruger SP101. In my case it would be a Marlin 1894c, S&W 60-9 and/or Ruger .357 Speed Six short barrel. On the other hand, for a single weapon it would be either a Ruger M77RSI in .308 or Win 94 with scout scope...

I've got one of those .308's, a Ruger M77RSI, that I kinda down loaded with 26gr SR4759 under 30/30 150gr bullets. I got a bit tired of the expense of full .308 loads and getting a bit beat up. The SR4759 load feels the same as my Win 94 30/30 and M1894c with Mag loads.
