Re: Now just suppose a bullet
1) Yes, the rate of rotation is constant unless acted upon by something other than the bullet's flight through the air. 2) No, the rate of rotation, imparted to the bullet by the rifling, remains constant, HOWEVER, the RPM begins to slow as the bullrt sheds velocity dur to drag with the atmosphere. ...

+1 for 2400! It's probably the most flexible of the magnum pistol powders, allowing you to assemble heavy-moderate to heavy loads without pressure or ignition worries. IIRC, somewhere around 21.5-22.0 grs. is max, I have loaded as light as 18.0 grs. with excellent results using 250 gr. cast SWC's. I...

Hooray! Mom's got a new gun!
She saw a Henry Golden Boy in the rack at our local gun shop and decided she should have it (I agree!). So, we picked it up last night and took it to the range today to sight it in. Now, I'm not a big fan of buckhorn sights, but I will say the sights Henry puts on their rifles are pretty good. For b...

Gryphon, I use 11.0 gr of 2400 under a hard cast 180 gr TC bullet (this is not a max load) in my 1894C and both of my handguns. The Lasercast loading manual shows a velocity of approximately 1400 fps from the carbine, I think it was 1100 from the pistols. It is very accurate in all three. YMMV. As f...

Scott, If these bullets are swaged (soft lead) and you you are loading these to use in a carbine, I would recommend 3.0 gr of Bulls-eye, but NO MORE than that! You will be pushing 1000 fps with that load and that is about the limit for swaged bullets, unless you REALLY like to use the afore-mentione...

I think the .357 Mag. Especially with the cost of ammo, handloaded or not, this is the one for versatility and cost effectiveness. We might come to that someday. Scott, I was never a big fan of 2400, until recently. I had not been able to find a charge weight that would give me an accurate group from my guns (bear in mind that I was primarily shooting J-bullets at the time). When I switched to primarily cast bullets all that changed! I loaded 11.0 gr 2400 wi...

A diet formulated for your specific blood type. Hmmmm.... if you can't see what is wrong with this picture, you need to start looking at nutrition from the side of science. Being an RN, I have done exactly that, and I assure you that what Hobie has outlined so succinctly above is the absolute truth!...

I'm trying to figure this out, see if you agree with this: Marlin 1894 .44 mag 20 " barrel Load - 240 gr XTP SP/24.0 gr 296, about 1650 fps Zeroed @ 50 yards I shoot 3 different loads in this gun - the one above, a 300 gr WFN/15.5 of #2400, and a 250 gr SWC/5.0 of Bullseye I'm trying to figure ...

Welcome to the forum, Fritz! You pose an intrersting question, qnd it has many answers! For me, I went with a 180 gr cast TC over 11.0 gr of 2400 for carbine and pistol. It runs around 1500 from the rifle and around 1100 in the short gun, accurate in both. I'm not worried about expansion (there isn'...

Have new rifle, need a mold!
OK, so I have decided to leave my new 336 as a 30-30 instead of rebarreling to 38-55. Now, I need a bullet mold. This rifle has micro-groove rifling and I'm not familiar with this at all. I was thinking of Lyman #311041, Lee #90368 (309-170-flat point), or Lee 90371 (312-185-1R). I'd really apprecia...

Hmmmmm............ you may be correct about that, 14.0 gr is a moderately heavy charge for a 180 gr bullet (I load 14.0 with the Hornady 180 JHP), but it is REALLY light for a 140. I load 18.0 gr under 158's with very good results, 14 may have produced a squib load in your case. If you want a high v...
