More 22 buisness.

Post by Nath »

As I mentioned on another .22 thread I waited down my garden for dark and to see if this feller would pass by like he has regular and well, he did.

20yds with an Eley sub sonic through the ribs. The bliter ran 150yds into cover but Tia soon trailed him and actually for a moment tried to retrieve him :D
I had to stop him from walking by saying quietly "hey".
These flamin fox's are everywhere chomping on everthing, it's no good.
Went lamping rabbit after and got 10 for the shop and saw another fox but it knew what a lamp was! That'll be an early morning job for the 94 :D

My buddy turned up just after to go get the rabbits with me so I got him to take the snap.
At first I thourght I had missed as I heard the bullet hit the turf behind him but there was no way I could of so I stowed the gun away and got the dog and took a walk watching Tias nose  Oddly this animal went further shot at less distance than the one shot with the air rifle a week or so before-go figure!

Nice shoot en, you ever try your hand with snares?

I have a photo around here from 1985-86 of a fellow from your part of the world, he must have a couple hundred reds that he snared in the photo. The photo is memorable to me not because of the numbers, but because of the way he had skinned them, they were what we call flat skinned, instead of the more common to me, being cased skinned. Different market's I suppose.

Anyway's keep up the good work--- Jim

Nath, haven't you thinned out the herd on those foxes yet? You do seem to live in a "target-rich environment"! :D

I have not snared them but know folk that do, I prefer the hunt and contact my self. I like to learn their trends and ambush them.

A bliter is err, I don't know! We just say it over here! Perhaps Gamekeeper will tell us.

Nice shootin' Nath, good to see you using that 9422. I have yet to see a fox when I'm out with my 9422M, the keeper here is pretty hard on em' and don't leave enough for the rest of us! :(

Man, you sure do get ahold of some nice mange free pelts..! :) Any market for them in Britian? I hate to see a good pelt go to waste. Would surely make a nice hat.

I can't remember the last time I saw a coyote here that was mange free.

Nice shooting.

Love these posts. Congrats on what must be your 5000th fox.

Have you ever considered mounting a light directly to the rifle?

Now, the question is, can I come visit with my .22 Lever (since I'm sure Customs won't let my .357 Rossi in...) before the rest of the EU falls to the Caliphate, then help smuggle You, Gamekeeper and the rest of the good-'uns off the Island before Labor gives up GB too?

cnjarvis, this fox was shot just on dark. I could still make some colour on him.
I have fixed lights on my gun before now but don't like it. If I do lamp on my own I simply hold the light in my left hand and rest the forearm on my arm however it only woks with light recoilers and does not work on the 30/30.
Thats a nice jesture Old irons :D
Yes deerwhacker it is rare to have a fox with mange around here but occasionly we get it mainly in the spring and summer. Urban fox's suffer with it alot. Nobody wants the pelts, if you wear a fur in brit now you may be pelted with eggs or paint, we are a communistic saterlite state now!
But don't worry, if it chucks a lump 'o' lead or a broad head I'll keep nailing them
