Re: Refresh my memory: which parts are needed for Win 86 conversion?
You would buy another Browning firing pin to weld on rather than just use the one that's in the gun? Im not sure exactly what differences there are between the Browning safety/inertia firing pins and later Winchesters versions, but I don't think its tremendous. Heres replacement, aftermarket firing ...

I think theres more to "what did a 94 cost in X year" and "what did a car cost". The 94 is basically identical then and now, the vehicles have much more changes and technologies that have changed since then. If the same level of change happened in guns, they would be more like a ...

There are no non-inerta Browning 86 firing pins. The one mentioned is the standard inertia type. The aftermarket firing pins made for original 86s and 71s are probably adaptable. I believe they are close dimensionally, but may require some fitting. The one that one of our guys here had trouble with ...

I have the Lyman 311252 32 auto 77 gr mold. I haven't cast with it yet, but it should be a great extra-light load bullet. It was listed in some of the old Ideal load manuals in many 30 cals as a gallery/cellar or small game load.

Excellent! Glad you got it fixed!
When you described how hard it was to move the firing pin before you filed and polished it down, it sounded like you were on to the answer.
I would be asking for a refund from the gunsmiths that charged you to not fix it.

I would start soaking it in penetrating oil. I believe the bolt comes apart very similar to the 73, the extractor pin is driven out, the extractor removed, that then allows the rear part of the firing pin to unscrew from the rear. Exploded view of the 1860 and 1866 action. http://www.rarewinchesters...

For me, the Smith 27s (or all the N frame 357s and 44s), K-22s, the Colt SAAs, the 1886 Winchesters, and the super clean M1 Garand I had that looked unfired. It was a Blue Sky import. Some others come to mind, those are the most egregious examples though.

Carbines are pretty plain vanilla compared to rifles, rifles have a bit more class and panache. It would be simplest to get a true rifle barrel and magazine ring (the front band you have is for a carbine).
