I'm putting either a williams or lyman receiver sight on my win 94 with a front sight ramp: How tall will the front sight need to be? Or do you buy a sight and then file it to height?
Thanks,
Sven

questions on receiver sights
I am planning on putting either a williams or lyman receiver sight on my win 94. I have a couple questions. Do these sights interfere with carrying the rifle by the receiver? I have large hands and when I was holding the rifle I noticed that my hand covered part of the space that the sight would occ...

Headspace issues?
I fired my win 94 30-30 today and when I checked the cases I noticed that the primers were backing out. I was shooting Federal 170gr sp rn ammunition. I don't have calipers to measure how far out they are getting, but it is easily noticeable by sight and feel. Is this something I need to worry about...

Where to buy parts?
Can anyone suggest a good source to buy replacement parts for a pre-64 win 94? Specifically some lower tang parts.

win 94 grip safety problem
Has anyone had a problem with their grip safety not working properly? I have a 1949 win 94 that the grip safety doesn't work reliably. After I've looked at this I believe the problem may be from rounded corners on either the trigger, safety, or both. Does this sound like a usual problem? Are there a...

it was made in 1949. Everything functioned correctly before I took it apart so the pieces should be okay. I think you're right and most likely something is binding. I just looked at it again and it seems to move freely and feels like there is good spring pressure. When the lever is closed it seems t...

grip safety quit working
I took my win 94 completely apart and cleaned it. Now after I put it all back together the grip safety only works about half the time! Have any of you had this happen before? Any ideas?
I was planning to go to the range today but that may have to wait

lubing a win 94
I have my new rifle completely apart for inspection and cleaning. What parts should be lubed? and do you recommend oil or grease? I'm thinking grease would work better on the bolt rails and locking block and oil for the other contact points.

1949 win 94 w/ pics
I recently purchased this rifle, it's my first leveraction. The past couple of years I've borrowed one from my cousin and I decided it was finally time to get my own. I've never handled any other firearm that felt so natural! The first time I fired one was deer hunting (I know bad ethics, I should h...

for 12g I like to have around 500 rds for targets and at least two boxes for game. 22 - 2 value packs so around 1000 rds big game rifles usually only a couple boxes. See a trend here? 2 of whatever; two cases, two boxes, two packs. Now I've also been considering a ar-15 and having a couple thousand ...

What finish was originally used on win 94 stocks? The rifle in question was manufactured in 1949.

well, it's better to take the advice of veterans than to go off on your own. I guess I'll hold off on refinishing. I'll try to post some pictures of it soon. I might think of trading it for a later model that is already drilled and tapped for receiver sights, as I've also been informed that putting ...

For those of you concerned about altering a rifle this one is by no means pristine. It has maybe 20-25% bluing left, speckled surface rust on the outside of the receiver and barrel, several dings in the metal, the front sight was broke off and a piece of copper soldered back on for a bead. Anyone st...

refinishing a win 94
I am planning on refinishing a 1949 win 94 that has little bluing left. but a decent finish left on the wood.
What finish was originally applied to the stocks?
Is there a cold bluing out there that works well and doesn't smell much, if at all?

cost to add a receiver sight?
I recently bought a 1949 win 94 and would like to put on a receiver sight (Lyman, Williams, etc. Haven't decided which one). What is the average cost to have a gunsmith drill and tap the receiver for this?

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll take it apart again when I get time and try to get it put together correctly. Once I've got a couple other questions though. How much would it cost to have the holes for a receiver sight drilled and tapped? Is this something I could do with a hand-held drill? I don...

disassembly intstructions for 1949 win94?
I finally bought one yesterday, I'll try to get pics up soon. I figured it would be easy to find instructions on disassembly on the internet but I couldn't find any for this particular style. So, of course, I went ahead anyway and took it apart, attempted to clean it. I even managed to get it back t...
