XLR
I am doing this very same thing but i've already made my choice. I have the Marlin 1895XLR in 45-70, installed the WWG's ghost ring and Williams front firesight. It's currently at my smith's place having a Bearproof ejector installed, trigger job, dovetail slot filled and bead blast. When I get it b...

I probably should have put that in my first post, I am not to keen on the scout scope setup. I prefer something a little more conventional. Am thinking the Vari-X III in 1.5-5x20 with heavy duplex or something along those lines, set up like a dangerous game rifle is about as best as I can describe it.

To scope or not to scope...
that is the dilemna I am in right now. The sights on my XLR are crappy and i need them changed out but I cannot decide if I want to use a low power scope or WWG ghost ring setup. I want to use this rifle for close rnage hunting, less than 75 yards but there's always the possibility that I may have t...

Sight selection
Could use a little help with choosing a good sight. I was tossing the idea of putting a low power Leupy scope on or the WWG sights. Leaning more towards the open sights but i'd like to hear from those that use either one. Thanks for the BD wishes guys.

Marlin 1895XLR 45-70
Well Happy Birthay to me!! I was getting ready to buy an XLR for my birthday and was told by the wife not to buy one. I asked why, she says......because I already bought one for you and it should be here sometime this weekend, early next week. Then my good friend Marc Taylor tells me he has a box of...

Opinion's on levers
guys, I need your advice, I am trying to decide which Marlin I want to buy, either the SS GG or the SS XLR. Is there any advantages between the 2 different types of levers, curved vs straight? I also like the longer barrel and stock on the XLR as compared to the GG BUT, I would chop the barrel down ...

NP's like to leave big wound channels and that's what you want when bear hunting, lots of damage and preferably, broken shoulders/spine. Take out their wheels and they are going nowhere fast. Nothing's more dangerous than tracking a wounded bear in the brush. There's an old saying up here that goes,...

Mike-in-WV, if the Powerpoints and Power-Shoks are putting meat in the freezer for you now then I wouldn't bother with the NP's. Bullet placement afterall is the key to success when it comes to putting game on the ground, which I am sure you are already know. I've been using the NP's for about 18 ye...

LOL........thanks for the welcome brother, I appreciate it! Wife approval is not necessary this time, it's been a long time since I bought a new rifle and i've been working p/t at night to help pay for it. Funny thing about the wife, she'll want to go shoot it once I get it.........man those 420 gr ...

New lever gun guy
A good friend of mine, Marc Taylor, told me about this forum so I had to come and check it out for myself. Lots of cool info and pictures here and i'm hoping to add a few of my sometime soon. I currently own a Marlin 336C in 30-30 and a Sears/Winchester model 94 also in 30-30. After handling Marc's ...
