OT-thanks for the prayers, the teacher didnt make it

Post by 45-70- »

Thanks for all the prayers and kind thoughts from everyone. My kids teacher who was shot by her estranged husband this weekend didnt make it. Her name is Tina Petty, she was 39 and has a 15 year old son named Colby. I wanted to share with you all how brave this young man was when it mattered the most. After hearing the shots, he ran in the house and saw his mom on the floor. He tried to help her and got in a fight with his dad over the gun but it was too late. He than ran outside and told his friends to run and call for help. While outside he dad shot himself. Hopefully Colby will be strong enough to overcome this tradegy in his young life. I am going to see if there is anything I can do to help this young man out.

If this young man ever needed a mentor, it's now.

He is being well cared for at the moment. I dont know him personally so I am making contact thru a mutual friend. I am not sure that I can do anything for him but I want to extend my hand and my heart to see if he needs anything.

People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

I'd say this young lad needs someone or a lot of someones to reach out to him and tell him how much we care. If you get a chance to talk to him tall him just how many people he has praying for him. The fact that he stood up to his armed and dangerous father at a time like that says a lot for the man's character.

Senseless acts such as this are the very hardest with which to deal. Prayers said for all involved...

Thanks guys. You're a great bunch. I just spoke to our mutual friend and she is going to pass on our thoughts as well as my offer to help in anyway if he needs something. I did find out that his grandparents, on his mom's side, just legally adopted him yesterday. Small town courts can hurry things up like that. He will be able to stay here and finish high school with his friends and he had a close relationship with these grandparents so it seems to have worked out as well as can be expected.
