New or reformed 25-35 brass ?
Close friend is looking for ,and not found 25-35 brass. Any experiences with reforming 30-30 brass?

Re: New or reformed 25-35 brass ?
Take it down in steps. I would first use a 7X30 Waters die, down to 7MM. Then take it done to 25-35. Case length trimming and inside neck reaming will also be required.
I have new Winchester 25-35 brass I use to make my Cowboy Screw Drivers. How ever I am running low or I would sell some. I have a back-order of 2000 at Graffs that is now over 18 Months old, and still waiting to be filled.
Winchester only runs this cartridge when they get enough Distributor back-orders for a special run.
You might try "Track of the Wolf", or "Buffalo Arms". I bought some from Roseburg Gun Shop, Roseburg, Oregon several years ago when I was desperate and almost out of stock.
A few Years back I had a Graffs back-order for 2000 30-40 Krag Winchester brass, it took 2 years to get the order.
Good luck on your quest.

I don't have a 25/35 (yet) but I have been making 25 Remingtons out of 30 Rems without problems. Like Lefty Dude says, an intermediate step to 7mm helps ease the process: I use an old 7X57 die that I cut off to shorten up a bit for another project. With the 25 rifles I have I trim a bit but don't have to do any neck reaming: that part will depend on the chamber in your rifle.

I sure am glad I stocked up on the oddball stuff years ago, cause it is real tough to find it now.

Lefty Dude,
"Cowboy Screw Drivers" excuse my ignorance, please, are CSD's those screwdrivers for your gun belt or is this a wildcat I have not heard of?
Thanks,

Natchez and Brownells web sites both state that 25-35 brass has been dropped by the manufacturer. Not temporarily suspended production, but dropped. It's the only brass I saw that said that. I wonder if it's true? Also anyone who forms 219 Zipper brass from 30-30 can supply you with 25-35. It comes out of the second forming die as a 25-35. At least it does on my RCBS forming set.

When I had a Marlin 1893 in 25-36 Marlin I was pretty lucky and picked up 100 new and 250 once fired 25-35 WIN . But I also at that time had a Marlin in 219 Zipper . For the Zipper I bought 200 pieces of formed brass of Ebay . There was a fellow in the Dakots I think that was selling it for about $25 a hundred and he used once fired brass !

Formed a couple just to see if I could. All I did was run 30-30 cases thru 7-08 Rem and 25-35 Win dies, then trim to length. Chambered and shot fine.

Sounds like you've got the recipe figured out, Thomas.264 Win Mag wrote:Formed a couple just to see if I could. All I did was run 30-30 cases thru 7-08 Rem and 25-35 Win dies, then trim to length. Chambered and shot fine.

Re: New or reformed 25-35 brass ?
Luckily I have a decent stash of 25-35 Win brass but I was wanting to try my hand at cartridge conversion for my own personal knowledge. I have also played around with 30-30 Win to 375 Win conversions. It was even more entertaining loading it like a blank with Titegroup and grits and fireforming them! Excellent reference is: The Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversion.

I don't have a 7mm-08 die, maybe my 257 Roberts would do.264 Win Mag wrote:Formed a couple just to see if I could. All I did was run 30-30 cases thru 7-08 Rem and 25-35 Win dies, then trim to length. Chambered and shot fine.

Re: New or reformed 25-35 brass ?
What you are needing, Bullard, is something kind of half-way between .30 and .25 to take the neck down a little more gradually. 7mm is just about perfect for that. Even the 7/08 is getting only about half the length of the neck squeezed down; I wouldn't have been sure that was enough but friend 264 Win Mag has showed us that it is. You can try going direct to 25/35 but I am guessing you'll loose a fair percentage of your brass if you don't have some intermediate step in there. If you were to pony up the bucks for a set of forming dies from RCBS I'd bet they would have a couple of intermediate steps. And charge you plenty for the pleasure.Bullard4075 wrote:I don't have a 7mm-08 die, maybe my 257 Roberts would do.
The first round I tried making 25 Remington direct from 30 Remington crinkled the neck, but I don't think I've lost any since I went to the intermediate 7mm step. Though I haven't formed a whole bunch -- maybe about 30.

The 7mm Waters is the perfect intermediate die.

Re: New or reformed 25-35 brass ?
The specs on the 25-35, concerning the base......are different from the 30-30. If you have a tight chambered 25-35, 30-30 will go in and stop about a 1/4" from fully chambering. This is not from me reading....it's from experience.
The 25-35 and the 219 Zipper have the same base diameter. I have never been able to size 30-30 brass using the 219 Zipper FLS down far enough to work. I had to buy a $200 set of forming dies for the 219 Zipper.
On the other hand, I have been able to size 30-30 brass down to 25-35.......several times......and it fit. 7 times out of ten, I had to use 25-35 brass or use the intermediate 219 Zipper die in order for it it to work. This is not from fooling with one or two rifles, but a dozen.-------6
