Got my Chiappa 1886 45-70 (pics)
I wanted to share this with you guys on here.
The Italians got it right on this one. I have longed for years for a Winchester 1886 in 45-70 and had to face it I could never afford a real Winchester 1886 so a few months ago I found this made by Chiappa and put it on lay a way, just picked it up today. I am so impressed with the workmanship of this rifle.
I'm not bashing the replica Winchester 1886 out of Japan but this blows it away, some of the features I like about it is there is no modern tang safety on it like the Winchester, and no re-bound hammer.
No warnings stamped on the barrel or gun anywhere, the only thing stamped on the barrel in fine stamping is TAYLOR and Co. WINCHESTER VA.
Also the walnut is excellent, wood to metal fit is perfect.
So if anybody has had the itch for a down to the "T" replica Winchester 1886 check these out.
Just a warning it weights a ton with the 26 in. octagonal barrel...LOL but that's just one more cool thing about it.

That's a real nice looking rifle. Thanks for the pics. Give us a range report when you try it out.
Good luck with it.

I'll bet it is heavy. Notice the difference in barrel thickness betwee it and my Marlin 1895CB (.45-70).

Nice looking rifle - interested to hear how it shoots. But sorry, nothing I have seen blows away the Miroku rifles.
Re: Got my Chiappa 1886 45-70 (pics)
You really got a nice rifle there. Good luck with it!
It looks like the forearm wood is thinner (more like the original 86) than on that of the newer Browning/ Winchester.
Old Savage: IMO I bet when he used the term "blows the new Winchester away", he was referring to the fact that his does not have the two items most of us all here (including me) love to hate, namely the tang safety and rebounding hammer.

Overall workmanship's better on the Mirokus, but the non-rebounding hammer & lack of a safety make it a little more desirable for purists.
Action's a little smoother, too.

Kachi - you could be right. Those things aren't a big deal to me - in fact I would rather have the tang safety. I do like the overall rustic look better than Miroku shine.

Very beautiful rifle. I sure would love to have me one of these. A guy I know at the gun show today was showing me a Winchester 1886 brand new in the box he needs to sale since he closed down his shop. Serial number 9

A ton may be a little over the top, but an 1886 with a octagonal 26 inch barrel is a substantial rifle. My Miroku 1886 .45-90 specs say it weighs 9.5 pounds. This weight takes a bit of getting-used-to but it is much appreciated (as is the thick metal of the barrel) when shooting hot loads, especially off the bench rest. Beautiful rifle you have and I look forward to your range reports.
For what it is worth, when mine was new, I bought a variety of .45-70 and .45-90 ammo from 300 to 500 grains and shot samples of them all to to see what the rifle preferred while "breaking it in". Though it was no surprise, the modern factory .45-70 ammo at 1800 to 2100 fps was more accurate out at 100 yards than the cowboy action ammo and it had a bit more recoil. Mounting a Marbles tang sight did wonders for my shooting accuracy also. Since then, the rifle has had a lot of cast and jacketed bullet handloads run through it from 300 to 450 grains and they seem plenty accurate for hunting purposes. Have fun and keep us posted.

I like my Browning 1886 rifle in .45-70, and yep, at 9.5 lbs it's a hefty handful. That barrel weight is what attracted me to the Browning over the Marlin... I don't like getting slugged in the shoulder by something that kicks like a 50 Cal, when the 45Govt is all the juice it gives.
That's definitely a pretty rifle... I'm looking forward to a range report. Sometimes, lookin' good is what one needs!

At that price,if it shoots as good as it looks and stays together,it's a steal. .
