OT: New Knife - She's a beauty

Post by Modoc ED »

I got this knife yesterday. It is from a newish (6-year old) company called "Great Eastern Cutlery" (GEC) and the knife is from their "Northfield UN-X-LD" division. The knife is their "Yellow Rose" single blade trapper with smooth yellow bone handles. Here's a couple of pictures that I took of it.

And the company promotional photo of it as they are much better photographers than I am.
Image
It's a big knife (4½") with a 3&7/8" blade but balances well in the hand and will be a real worker.

Any of you guys have one of these GEC knives?

Pretty little knife ya got there!

Traditional style folders aren't my primary interest but I could see a place for that in my display case.

That knife has some serious class. I can't find the price on their website...might have to save my nickles for one.

Modoc ED, I don't know what it is about that new knife of yours, but it really appeals to me. It might be the classic lines, it might be that yellow bone handle, it might be both and more. It also has a nice antique look about it, which is due to its understated and classic design. Very nice.

Modoc, that is a beauty you got there. GEC makes some great knives. I have been buying a few and putting them away, and buying a few for users. Very nice, well put together classic pocket knives.

My thoughts exactly. With that steel it should hold a good edge let us know after you have had a chance to put it to work.

That is a fine looking knife and just the right size and shape. I used to find the yellow knives unattractive but like them now. The yellow handles sure help you not lay your knife down and then not be able to find it. Be careful not to lay your camo knife in the leaves!

I agree. 1095 steel makes for a good carbon steel blade which will hold a good edge and get very sharp. I think that is the steel that the Old Timer knives used to use before Wal Mart put them out of business. (The Old Timer brand has been bought and resurrected, but it is not at the same plant or the same owners as before. Wal Mart refused to pay for a huge shipment of knives and Old Timer had to go out of business due to bankruptcy.)

"Old Timer" was a Trademark of the old Schrade Cutlery, as was "Uncle Henry." The Uncle Henry line was basically a series of 'stainless' Old Timers...

I have several styles of both, from the old Schrade works, and they are keepers, for sure.

Another company to check out is Canal Street Cutlery. Nice American quality. Great styles. I'll get some pictures and post.

Too bad about Schrade. I have some nice old Schrade knives. Let's just say that Uncle Henry would be rolling over in his grave if he saw some of what bears his name coming out of the factory now.
