rebarrel a ted williams (winny 94)

Post by uncoolperson »

I was thinking the other day, it'd be nice to have mine and my wife's rifles in the same caliber (32 spec).

So, how hard is a home done rebarrel of a 94? Any problems to expect with the ted williams?

Thanks

unscrewing the old barrel is the toughest part.
barrel vise and action wrench is the way to go.

before i did mine, a local smith quoted me 30.00
to do a switch, by the time the sweating and
cussing were over, i wished i had paid him.

then again i learned some stuff i never would have
if i had not given it a go[second time was easier].

good luck, pokey

The action wrench and the ability to adjust the shoulder so the top of the barrel is centered makes it easy.

I have a 1970s 94 that I can swap barrels between 30 wcf and 32 ws without a wrench.
Kind regards,
Tycer

If you have a factory barrel it's pretty simple . When you open the action you wil see that the barrel screws in till it's flush with the inside of the receiver with the ejector groove at the top. Use a empty cartridge with a couple layers of masking tape to check the head space. The action should close with two layers but not 3 . Your looking I believe max of .007 of an inch. Make sure the bolt is open or out so you don't break off the extractor.

Good Luck!

The "problem" I see for you is that the .32 WS barrel you're likely to find will be for the standard carbine but the Ted Williams has a different front sight/magazine set up. You might have to change that as well. IOW, you'll be making a standard 94 carbine out of it.
Sincerely,

Hobie
