It was time for a new Colt Gold Cup Series 70 National Match

Post by 2ndovc »

Had to do it!

Brand new .45 Colt Gold Cup. I haven't shot it yet, probably get to the indoor range Monday or Tuesday.

There's two of my 1911's over in the classifieds, a Remington and a Springfield. Their both great shooters.
Their just not Colts! :D

What makes it a "Gold Cup" versus just a really nice Colt 1911...???

Is it certain features, better fitting, nicer finish, or all of that...?

Doc, the Gold Cups have a rib down the top of the slide. The easiest thing to see anyway. They used to have better fitting and triggers but I don't know if that's still true or not.

Good morning
The 70 series are real hard to beat in my experience. No Gold Cup right now but have a A1 model that shoots as good as I can. Made in 74 the year I ETS'd from the Pickle Suit experience. This one will stay with me a long time.

Exactly right. Adjustable trigger, micro adjustable, serrated Bullseye style sights, National Match barrel, etc.
They were the old standard of Bullseye match shooting. My dad has recently gotten back into it and bought the same pistol a couple weeks ago. I was really impressed by it and decided to get rid of a couple things and get back into the Colts. Still need to replace a Combat Elite and a Delta, but those will come.

Nice. That's a really nice looking pistol.

Colt is doing a really good job with their quality now.

I have two Springfields and two Colts. Both Springfields are really nice and great Shooters but there is just something about the Colts.

Good to see Colt is still able to turn out top-notch stuff.

It would be nice if they would reintroduce their DA revolvers of the 70's...!

Didn't know Colt was still building a Series 70? Thought they were dropped when they went to the Series 80? Glad they brought back the 70 series!

Re-introduction as of last year I think. One of their better decisions lately. Seems like their trying to dig themselves out of the hole.

I'm with ya Doc. Some new Pythons would be a nice thing to see. The average person would have a tough time affording an original these days.

I'm still shooting my Series 70 I bought at the San Diego Marine Corps Recruit Depot gun shop on 06 July 1974. I'll guess it only has a gazillion rounds through it. 5 years ago I replaced the hammer + sear which seemed like a good plan since that sear interface surface was getting a bit worn in a weird fashion. It is otherwise like I bought it, and still has the original recoil spring, works just like it was designed to do.
