The Situation In California
After the election you can now buy pot over the counter, but ammo needs a background check. Dang...

Re: The Situation In California
IF California WAS smart, the state would add so much tax on dope sales they would generate enough to get out of debt! Supposedly Colorado has a surplus from their venture in dope sales but they didn't create the law to benefit the state, the tax generated doesn't do any good for anyone...
Now the question is have they put rules into effect that will hold crimes related to dope have conquences or just another slap on the wrist? Wait, what am I saying! They are DOPE SMOKERS-duh!
As far as bullets, www.midwayusa.com...

It's true what Blaine says. But the background check has over a year until it takes effect. We have already started a two pronged attack, courts and legislature, to kill this. We do what we can against apparently superior numbers.

So if a background check is going to be required to purchase ammunition, I can't help but wonder what the idiots in charge will do about those of us who reload so only purchase components? I expect they will probably make brass, bullets, powder, and primers require a background check too.

As I understand it, and I could be wrong, components don't require background check. Still, I won't buy any components in California anymore. I'll buy them elsewhere and let that location have any taxes associated with the sale.Shasta wrote:So if a background check is going to be required to purchase ammunition, I can't help but wonder what the idiots in charge will do about those of us who reload so only purchase components? Don't worry about not having a background check for components. You'll soon hear about the "ammunition components loophole" that needs to be closed.
Probably was left out on purpose. Great way for the anti-firearms groups and politicians to keep the issues in the spotlight to gather votes and raise campaign funding by promising more ways to keep the gullible public safe from shootings, robbery, etc.

I'd move...for real...nothing annoys me more than someone else telling me what to do, especially something that was legal yesterday and illegal tomorrow.

I'm sure that when Gavin Newsom becomes governor in 2018, filling out a notarized form explaining just why you are leaving to visit another state, will be required, along with a 10 day waiting period, before being issued a travel permit.m.wun wrote:Hop, skip, and a jump to Vegas boys!

NY passed a similar law a few years ago. Of course there's no way to implement it, so they don't. But it has stopped 99% of the online/catalog sales from out of state. Now certain companies, Midway for one I believe is really playing "cover your butt" and isn't selling components to NY either.Shasta wrote:So if a background check is going to be required to purchase ammunition, I can't help but wonder what the idiots in charge will do about those of us who reload so only purchase components? Hey Glen...did ya hear the news? For real, it looks like that law is going to be changed as lots of these youngsters want to hunt with their AR's.cas wrote:Except hunt with a semi auto.Sixgun wrote:

Hey man...let's plan on another get together this coming year. I miss those old ones. We could probably do it at the Ridgway Rifle Club just by going up a day early for an upcoming silhouette match.----6

If that happens it'll be the end of the Remington 760 (or whatever they call it now) not that I really cared for pump centerfire rifles .Sixgun wrote:Hey Glen...did ya hear the news? The law is on the Governor's desk that would give the discretion to the PGC to allow semis for hunting. It remains to be seen if he will sign it and then what the PGC will do if he does.

As a Pa. resident since '54, a hunter since '66, and one who has spent lots of time in the mountains, I am against it for safety reasons only. As you know, Pa is heavily forested with shots at big game over 100 yards a rarity and I can envision guys with their .308 AR's with 20 round mags letting loose. Out West it's a different story, plus most of the western states have capacity limits, unlike Pa.----6

Re: The Situation In California
Six,
I'm less pessimistic than you on semi-autos. WV has very much the same terrain as PA if not even more mountainous. They have allowed semi-autos for years as has 48 other states without issue. I would anticipate the PGC would include mag limits of probably 5 rounds. I have seen pumps and levers put out 5 shots faster than a semi-auto can.

Re: The Situation In California
OK Redhawk.....maybe I need to educate myself a bit and yes, there should be a mag limit with the semi's. I think it's because I remember the middle sixties when the majority of hunters were WW2 vets and I vividly remember, in Centre County, despite the law, a few of the "the older guys" would hunt with M-1 Carbines with 30 rd mags...and they emptied those mags. In Colorado, my son uses a Ruger AR in .308 for elk.
You got me thinking now.....I could use the BAR....might be a bit heavy but I'll stay close to camp!-----6

Respectfully, do you think that limiting another man's choice about firearm choices is fair dinkim because of a personal opinion? With Nevada having kept Harry Reid in office so many years, and then the state going blue this election, Nevada won't be safe from idiotic elections either, for very long.m.wun wrote:Hop, skip, and a jump to Vegas boys!
This past election should not be a fluke, it should have the turn out from conservatives like that EVERY election. He got the electoral votes but their numbers are growing. They are like maggots on a dead carcass that kill every freedom they do not agree with.
You guys still have light at the end of the tunnel, but unless you get motivated and stay that way, it WILL change. When I cam to CA in 72 it was an entirely different state, laws and people. Conservative thinkers were a huge majority.
The left is slow, methodical, patient, and WELL funded by the likes of Soros. Do NOT underestimate their tenacity.
We need a new set of video games and movies. Instead of based on zombies, it's liberals.
I'm convinced they WANT us to leave, then they will have the state to themselves.

I was driving in 97, and at a truck stop in northern Kali...Yrekia?.....there was supposed to be no smoking, but everyone, including some of the local LEO's were flipping the bird to the law and were all lit up. I smoked at the time, and an old grizzled trucker said the State Hippies could go blank themselves...handirifle wrote:With Nevada having kept Harry Reid in office so many years, and then the state going blue this election, Nevada won't be safe from idiotic elections either, for very long.m.wun wrote:Hop, skip, and a jump to Vegas boys!

I have given up on Kalipornia!
IDAHO bound,
Bought 5 acres in Emmett surrounded by BLM land on two sides and am in the process of turning that into my dream home.
Born and raised here, stayed for the job, but have been unhappy here for years! The friggen state has put one to many straws on this camels back, AND it's only going to get worse here, I finally can financially afford to get out..
Excited in moving to a place where my values are in tune with the state and local government and its citizens

The secret is not to tell anyone. 25 years ago, in Kal., property values escalated to high levels, many people sold their homes, made a mint, moved to a very red state called Colorado. The only problem was they brought their liberal values with them. Now it's blue. ----6
Re: The Situation In California
I grew up in So. CA (Compton) and lived there for 60 years (definitely not in Compton!). My experience tells me that taxing pot will do very little good in producing revenue. If a heavy tax is placed on pot, most users will still get their stash cheaper from their local dealer (just like anti-gun moves makes some go "illegal").
I escaped CA just 7 years ago, mainly because of the obscenely crazy politics. Even in nice small towns 800 miles away from L.A., they are still saddled by the same stupid laws.
