Good times. 8) Wish I had a place nearby to shoot that far. Looks like a nice range there.

Cool! Is it an original? Any idea what year?

Nice! I agree. 380 is the longest range I have access to. I say its road trip time and we show up down there!

I taught myself to shoot both shoulders. It became a necesity after my shoulder surgery last May on my right shoulder.

Dosent help that the rifle only weighs 9 1/2lbs. If it wasn an original I would fill the butstock with lead until it at least weighed 12lbs

No AK/SKS/AR's there that day. Had a couple guys practicing IPSC and a concealed carry class also had a gent firing a bunch of Mossin Nagant M44's and a M1 Garran.

It was a high of 60° its only supposed to get to 38° tomorrow :o

As much as I enjoy shooting it my next bp cartridge rifle it will be heavier in the 12# range and will be something with lighter recoil like a 40-65. Just cant handle as much recoil post surgery on the right shoulder. Guess I could load lighter bullets and or less powder but where is the fun in that

Actually Jeremy the 45/70 is stellar with light loads, cat sneeze variety up to the pistol equivalent. You get trigger time and get to cozy up to the sight picture and get the cloud of smoke, or not, get the satisfying click..boom..........................clang when you ring the gong. all with no recoil and lower costs. plus, if you make a simple bullet snatcher behind the gong you can recycle it. You can load shot. You can load round balls. There's a ton of fun in any 45/70.

what's not to like about that?

Nice gun, I still don't have a roller, still mourning the loss of my first one.

Grizz I actually shoot round ball loads in it all the time out to 50 yards for plinking and fire forming. But the heavy long range load is a bear

The hunt club still shoots on base and members can bring a guest.

Jeremy,

Love that rifle. Nice range too.

Question: Wouldn't it be easier on the shoulder to shoot off hand and let your body move with the recoil?
Just a thought. My Enfields with their short stocks always beat the snot out of me on the bench but are decent off hand.

Yes it would be but 500 yards with the barrel sights really requires a rest. Need to work out a better sight set up that wont permanently alter the gun.

That and some padding for the shoulder wouldn't hurt either.

Jeremy,
Back when I would do extended sessions with .458 Win Mag.
I adjusted everything for bench sessions with a bag of shot between me and the gun.
