The first Ford I liked !

Post by 6pt-sika »

A friend that comes by once or twice a week and works for Colonial Truck sales in Richmond stopped by in their advertising truck !

Things got a Cummings diesel and 1100 wheels same as on a road tractor !

This thing impressed me even if it is a Ford . Could be the perfect hunting truck with a new paint job .

my '94 GMC got 20 mpg on a 305 V-8 - best truck I've ever owned.
I'm driving an F150, can never beat 18 mpg with the little short-stroke road race block they put in them.

When I bought my 1-ton 4x4 dually, I was torn between it and the Chevy 650 4x4... Shoulda bought the 650! But, I do like my 1-ton.

My wife would like it... it has steps to climb up in it.

And I thought my "one fine 69"(logo on truck) was something  (that is a beautiful truck 6pt)
Mine was big enough though, a 1969 Ford F100 canary yellow short box 44" Super Swampers(13" Superlift suspension kit)
Pumped up 390 cid with a BW T10 got those 44's really turning.(Sold it to BIL) Not a speck of rust anywhere/got the basic truck from Arizona in 1989 then re did whole thing(But I did have a new full size GMC 4X4 Sierra Classic for daily driver)

Used to get a kick (driving it)to the Bloomsburg 4Wheel Jamboree Summer Nationals every year not entering it but watching all the people give it a go over in the parking lot. :D

Gotta say, I love the Fords--------Their F250 Super Duty is a heck of a truck.

What am I driving now---------------A 4x4 Kia
If I have to haul anything just hookup my Mid Atlantic 3500gvw trailer in 5 mins

See, I wish there was a 1/4ton 4x4 PU with a common-rail diesel. I might actually be convinced to buy a New Truck if someone would make one of those. (I really have no need for a 1 ton... but if it got better mileage than my 1/4 ton?... )

But because of the LibTards ad their Anti Carbon Fuel Agenda they won't... even though it would burn Vegetable Oil just fine (so long as the oil stayed warm...)

Other than the wife comment, I resemble this remark...

Last REAL American auto manufacturer, not that this 100% good, but helps me be more optimistic about the choices my children have. They might not have to become drones for a government job(GM?).

My very favorite Ford, color 'n everything. '63 Galaxie XL Convertible. Unfortunately not mine. Someday...
Image
Nicest big car--ever IMO. If you remember, this was back when the manufacturers changed styling every year. The 61s, 62s and 64s were good years too, but this took the cake. In '65+ all of 'em lost it on the big ones--again IMO.

My first car AFTER I got my license was a '63 1/2 Ford fastback with a 406 Tri-Power, top loader 4 speed, detroit locker rear end w/3.91 gears. Have a picture of it somewhere...need to find it. First car BEFORE I received my license was a 1960 Ford Falcon four door with a 85HP six, three on the tree, that I bought for $15 at a Ma Bell auction (It was mostly rust with some dark green paint and a gold bell on the doors). Drove that car until I was old enough to get a license (about a year), a quart of oil a day to go with the gallon of gas I put in it. Had to park on a hill to start it as the battery had a dead cell and would lose it's power after a couple of hours. But, get it rolling just a bit, pull the choke, and pop the clutch in second gear and the beater would start in -20'F weather on the first try. 'Course the heater could not keep up with the air flow through the rusted out floors.

OTH; sad memory, our neighbor had that exact car W/ <1100 mi. Drove it toward Scranton , Pa to see family. Buck came thru windscreen, bled all over the car, tore up all the upholstery, damaged the dash and instruments, and escaped thru the soft top. He was able to stop and bail out w/o injury. The car was total lossed, he was heartbroken.

Blaine, here was my Fairlane...that is my first wife holding the flag and MIL(not a pleasant person) standing next to her. The two women on the hood were with my crew chief and one of the crew members.

This was one of the biggest wins for me as we beat Rusty Wallace, Dick Trickle, Alan Kulwicki, Jim Sauter, and Bob Senneker to name a few. They were all driving "store bought" tube chassis Camaros, Mustangs, and the such. I built that car with my own two hands based on a '60 Ford taxi cab chassis (which was the same as the convertible chassis only the rails were .375" deeper), chrome moly cage, believe it or not a '57 Lincoln modified front suspension (lower control arms, uppers were homemade tubes, bar was Holmen& Moody 1.75" springs and pockets were SCP), and a rear end from a '73 Dodge Power Wagon (Dana 60, modified the hubs and axle tubes). The engine for that race was a 428 Ford FE block .030" over, with a 1961 Police intercepter 390CI Steel Crank, 427CI LeMans polished rods, 12.5 to 1 high domed pistons, 427 High Riser heads with 2.25 intakes and 1.73 exhausts pushed by a 306/312 duration cam with .525" lift intakes and .540" exhaust. Total cubic inches was 406.5" and the engine dyno'd at 677 HP @ 7450 RPM. Would have been more (Dyno'd it three years after this race, but added a .600 lift cam and a Dominator carb it showed 805HP @ 8000RPM, but very low at corner RPM of around 4000RPM, they also outlawed Big Blocks), but used a 750CFM carb allowing me more low end torque to get off the corners. For being a "homebuilt" car it weighed only 2800lbs and we could run it there, wereas the "store bought" had to run a 3000# min. Led 80% of the laps that day and was still pulling away on the high banks.

The first Ford I liked was my 65 Mustang Fastback with 298 High Performance engine and 4 speed T-10 transmission back when I was single, and gas was cheap.

Image

I almost forgot my '75 Ford Granada, super reliable but also easy to work on, and I felt safe in this battle tank. The 302 V-8 got 16 mpg which wasn't bad back in the 80s into the early 90s when gas was still affordable. My kids cried when I sold this car.

Image

My wife's currant vehicle is a 2001 Ford Escape which we bought with 5000 miles on the odo in 2001 so technically used but like new. It has proved powerful (all aluminum DOHC 3.0 V-6 201 hp) reliable, fuel efficient 20 mpg), and surprisingly capable offroad (goat hunt on Maui but don't tell my wife) during the past 11 years.

One of my buddies that happens to be married to the daughter of the local Harley dealer (that has the Chevy K-650) used to have a F-350 Crew Cab 4x4 with the V-10 gas motor . That was a long long truck , but it just didn't compare in awe appeal to this F-650 8)

I guess if I were rich, I might consider one! As it is, I hate bad gas mileage and dropping 600-800 bucks on regular truck tires. I would sure hate to have to put tires on that one! One thing is for sure, it will pull any trailer you need pulled short of a semi trailer. IMO, it wouldnt be much for off road with Hiway tires and all the junk under it to get high centered on!
