JES Reboring email address?

Post by awp101 »

I have a question for him and rather than play phone tag, I figured I'd email. I don't see an email listed but I don't know how often he updates the website.

If there's no email contact it's no big deal but I figured I'd ask. I have a project in my head and I need to know if he does a certain caliber.

Thanks! :D

Imagine if you will, a box stock looking Yugo M48 (or similar bent bolt, intermediate length Yugo Mauser action). Pretty plain Jane and normal, right?

Then you see the barrel is stamped 9x57...

Have it rebored to .358 instead of 9mm. Use the same dies and there are a lot more bullets available than for 9mm.

I thought about .358 Win from the get go as the easiest, cheapest solution but it won't clean up a 57mm chamber. That's when I started looking at the larger "classic" Mauser calibers. My reason for the 9x57 over the 9.3x57 is I could use .357/9mm bullets for plinking, paper punching etc (which is what this rifle would see 99.9% of the time).

OTOH, after your post I did some more digging around and found information on the .358x57 but that means custom dies (more $$$). If the info on page two of THIS THREAD is correct though, I might be able to use .35 Whelen dies just as easily.

This will require more pondering and daydreaming.*

handi, been there and dug around a fair amount the past few days. That's how I know there's no email listed.

Sorry if it wasn't clear to you!. I said "bore .358", not "chamber for .358"!

Note that I said "Use same dies", means use 9x57 dies. The .002-.003 difference in bullet diameter wouldn't preclude using standard 9x57 dies and loading .358 bullets instead of .356. Then you can use standard bullets and have more variety available than what is for 9mm rifle bullets.

So far as needing .358x57 dies I think you will find the only difference is how they are stamped, and a lot more money because they are "Custom". My RCBS 9x57 dies load .358 bullets just fine!

No e-mail, but here is his contact information.

And he will return your call. He's one of the nicest fella's you'd ever want to talk to....and when he's done with your shooter it'll put em where you aim it. Got a 38-55 I'm kinda partial to that he did for me.
