Christmas for the Boy
I gave my 8 year old son his his first .22 this morning. He was very excited. All he could say was AWESOME!!!!! Hopefully we'll get out this week to the range and let him take his first shots with his very own lever.

first gun
The smile says it all. Well done. A great choice. I choose a 20 gauge single shot for my sons first, wish I had gone the .22 route.

Someone has to say this, so I'll go ahead and be the one:
Nice gift, proud kid, proud Dad, but you need to teach him that absolutely, positively NEVER does the finger go to the trigger unless the rifle is pointed downrange in a safe direction and he is aimed in for his shot. Finger goes on the receiver until the shot is lined up. Every time, no exceptions.

Geez...get with the modern times. Get him some video game, and some lame plastic toy that will wear out in 24 hours. How dare you actually give a gift that will last 100 years, and instill a sense of responsibility, intellectual curiosity, and passion. Those are qualities of days gone by.

Gun Control is knowing where (& when) to put your trigger finger...
Nice gift though.

But...8 years old, first gun, new picture...I'll bet dad already had that discussion and will continue the safety lessons as the fun of father/son shooting goes on.
Great gift and have fun...they are only young for a few days (or it certainly seems like on a few days) before they are grown.

trigger finger
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to point that out:) Yes we talked about it, but in his defense he did know for a fact the gun was unloaded as we performed a check as soon as he opened it up. We are going to the range today to try it out. Wish him luck. I'll post pictures later.
Thanks for all the replys.
