Christmas for the Boy

Post by TX50Cal »

I gave my 8 year old son his his first .22 this morning. He was very excited. All he could say was AWESOME!!!!! Hopefully we'll get out this week to the range and let him take his first shots with his very own lever.
Browning BL-22.
Merry Christmas guys and gals..

Handsome lad & a fine rifle too! He's no longer a future levergunner. You have discharged your duties Pard & he is now on his way to a very bright & wonderful adventure.

Well done I say!!

He's gonna cherish that rifle the rest of his life. I still have the 3 firearms my dad got me and if my sons or any future grandsons don't want them they are coming with me. I think of my dad every time I handle them.

Very cool. My first "real" rifle was a Marlin Golden 39. I remember that day well. 1886.

I was 10yrs old when My dad gave me my bl-22....It was the best present I have ever recieved or would ever recieve... he let me keep it in my room..I had hunted since I was knee high so safe handeling of a gun was drilled into me from birth..

The smile says it all. Well done. A great choice. I choose a 20 gauge single shot for my sons first, wish I had gone the .22 route.

Someone has to say this, so I'll go ahead and be the one:
Nice gift, proud kid, proud Dad, but you need to teach him that absolutely, positively NEVER does the finger go to the trigger unless the rifle is pointed downrange in a safe direction and he is aimed in for his shot. Finger goes on the receiver until the shot is lined up. Every time, no exceptions.

Geez...get with the modern times. Get him some video game, and some lame plastic toy that will wear out in 24 hours. How dare you actually give a gift that will last 100 years, and instill a sense of responsibility, intellectual curiosity, and passion. Those are qualities of days gone by. :?

Beat me to it.

Gun Control is knowing where (& when) to put your trigger finger...

Nice gift though.

I'll bet we all noticed the itchy trigger finger.

But...8 years old, first gun, new picture...I'll bet dad already had that discussion and will continue the safety lessons as the fun of father/son shooting goes on.

Great gift and have fun...they are only young for a few days (or it certainly seems like on a few days) before they are grown.

trigger finger

Post by TX50Cal »

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to point that out:) Yes we talked about it, but in his defense he did know for a fact the gun was unloaded as we performed a check as soon as he opened it up. We are going to the range today to try it out. Wish him luck. I'll post pictures later.
Thanks for all the replys.
