Shawn.. My wife is from Pocahontas county.. Her family lived at the base of Watoga on Beaver Creek... I know a few people from up that way
We lived in Huntersville for a year while Dad was stationed in Marlinton. If your wife is familiar with the town, this was 1961 and we lived in the antebellum house that is now derelict. Well, it looked abandoned to me. The two-room school house was at the back of the property. I guess that wrecking yard or whatever it is owns that property now.
Sincerely,
Hobie

Hobie is that right near the long straight stretch.. There was/is a motorcycle shop right there called Amo's.... She thinks thats where it is.. We knew Amo really well... Went there quite often...
Yeah, the motorcycle shop was in Huntersville. Unfortunately Amos passed away about two years or so ago, gone but not forgotten. I believe his daughter's husband is going to open it back up.
I moved there around 1990 on RT. 92 in a little bottom called "Wildcat Run". I graduated from Pocahontas Co. High in 1999, GO WARRIORS! I do know quite a few Burr's and Underwood's from up in Beaver Creek.
Yeah sucked about Amo... Brook has opened the shop back up.. My wifes Gma was Dolly Underwood... My wife was a Pyles... I knew Amo real well... Spent many a night up at his house on Browns mountain.. He was a really cool guy if you didnt make him mad
Yeah it is on the straight stretch from the new stop and go to the old one now painted lime green. The Post Office used to be right straight across from the gate on the road to the old house and you could look across an empty field to the church and see the jail from the house. The lime green place was unpainted and the only store in town. I attended the two-room school for one year.
Sincerely,
Hobie

John, I left Covington in 73 and moved to Alderson in Greenbrier County and graduated from Greenbrier East High School in 1983. I moved to Roanoke that year and been here ever since. I used to hunt ground hogs up in Stoney Bottom above Cass and hung around Marlington some back in the 80's. Beautiful country. I now have a small farm below Alderson and am thinking of moving there and buildong a new house soon. Need to have a small levergun shoot up your way and I will plan to attend.
