JWG,
The .44 Wesson Extra Long is the same as the .44 Ballard Extra Long. I already have a Ballard in that caliber, so I'm set up to reload for it now.
I make my cartridges from .444 Marlin cases that I run through my lathe to take some of the diameter off in the thickest web area from the rim to about 3/8" up. Then trim them to 1.63" and load them up.
Once I made up a hundred cases it's a snap to reload after that.
If a guy wants to get into oddball calibers it's easier today than it ever was! I could have simply purchased brass from several makers like Bertram, Rocky Mountain Cartridge, or a couple others. Dies can be purchased for just about anything, and C&H4D is very reasonable on specialty dies.
I'd just rather make them, if I can.
Thanks for the kind remarks guys! Nice to share with fellow levergunners.
