made meat today.
Winchester 94 Chief Crazy Horse 38/55 did the job today, 30 yard shot. Here in Illinois we can use rifles now as long as it's a single shot. I made it so by putting a wooden dowel in the mag tube. Think I'll do it again tomorrow!

Re: made meat today.
Nice! Congrats. I guess the deer didn't get the memo about the 38-55 being obsolete.
Re: made meat today.
GREAT JOB! I love how well those old "obsolete" calibers work.

Great All Around. I'd love to See the Game Wardens face trying to figure out a single shot 94.

I'm sure he know what to look for as it's the law here.
Today the Same rifle made more meat as the good Lord brought me a nice 8 pointer. 88 yard shot.

Re: made meat today.
wow, double congrats. two very nice looking deer.
what load are you shooting in that rifle. Hopefully before next season I'll finish my 38-55 rifle and work up a deer load.

Nice shooting!
Re: made meat today.
Nice deer. In what part of this state are you hunting?
Re: made meat today.
I'm in Stephenson county, just south of Freeport, which borders Wisconsin, NW part of the state. My load it 18.0 of 2400 with a Barnes 255g .377 bullet.

Re: made meat today.
Nice work Veeman. Were you tempted to do the same with one of your 1876s?
Re: made meat today.
Yes! I had left the 94 in the blind overnight (locked up). Had i taken it home I would have taken the 45-60 out for the buck. Next season for sure, I may buy another tag for next week.Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 9:37 am Nice work Veeman. Were you tempted to do the same with one of your 1876s?![]()
