Double rifle in .480
I tried some more tame loads in this gun but it won’t shoot to the same point of impact unless stepped on pretty hard.
With 10 gr of Unique the barrels cross and print about 6 inches apart at 25 yards.
But with the Hornady factory 325 gr XTP load it cuts the same hole.

Re: Double rifle in .480
Seeing this and the earlier posts reminded me of watching Jim Clark on the telly build a double rifle on a CZ fowling piece. I think that one was .45-70 if my memory serves. I tried to find that show on y.t. and was unsuccessful but in the process I found this interesting channel.....

Scott, that's a lovely double rifle. I find these critters fascinating, but I am on a beer budget.
Do you have or have you seen a copy of Graeme Wright's "Shooting the British Double Rifle"? Good stuff.

I am not familiar with that book.
Yeah, this gun is really way out of my league. But it’s so darn cute.

I'd deer/hoghunt with that any day! Cool factor in spades!!
I'd like to have a double with hornet, bee and 25-20 barrel sets! Just for charging groundhogs- they can be dangerous!

Re: Double rifle in .480
This is fun.
Good friend Cannon Watts sent me a box full of sized and primed .480 brass. Much of it looks brand new.
I’m experimenting and looking to find a load with the 400 grain Lee cast bullet that will regulate in this gun.
I am loading some of Hunters Products 412 gr bullets over a variety of powders to see which might get me there.
Loaded .480 (21 gr 296) next to a 412 gr flat point and a factory Remington .45 Colt.

Re: Double rifle in .480
10 gr of Unique behind a 412 grain cast causes the shots to cross even at 25 yards. The three on the right are from the left barrel and the three on the left are from the right barrel. Velocity 1120

A 420 LFN over 19 gr of 296 shows promise. 1230 fps

Re: Double rifle in .480
13.5 gr of HS 6 makes it hard to open the action and that’s not a good thing with a double rifle I have read.
This is a very light rifle and I was looking for something a bit more comfortable. But this one wants to be pushed harder.

Re: Double rifle in .480
I'd stick with the 296 loads.
It's the velocity range that matters, if you can duplicate the factory ammo it was regulated with it should shoot very well.

Re: Double rifle in .480
I have seen and fired some very nice doubles and drillings, but as a retired GOV guy don't own any and as an OLD guy don't want to carry one.
