Re: First Lever gun Deer kill
NICE BUCK! Congrats on your first lever gun 'harvest'( have never liked that term). People are too magnum crazy- velocity crazy, what have you. Buddy of mine years ago shot a cow elk at about 175-200 with cast 40-65 hand load, went clean through and she dropped in less then 50 yards. Slow but deadly...

I would buy a Kimber, then either a Springfield or Ruger.
But I would suggest( as I do whenever someone asks me what to buy) have this fine young man go to an indoor range that rents guns, have him try as many 1911's as possible, then he can form his own opinion.

You made a good choice. Many people hate Glocks, but many more love them. I bought my G23 back in '91. The finish has worn off, but still works flawlessly. I have shot mine underwater, no need for the striker spring cups to be changed. Feeds and cycles no problem. JUST DONT USE CAST OR HOLLOW POINTS...

I made the mistake of shooting plated bullets and that caused serious copper fouling.
After many hours scrubbing it has started to behave. Not only fouling minimized but groups shrank dramatically.
