"i think a man with a drillpress, hacksaw, and a file is not going to get this done." I'm sure you are right, but with what machinery costs these days there are plenty of garage guys with the toolwithall to do it. As an example I paid last spring about 200 bucks for a South Bend 9" to...

Sheridan in 5MM is a a great rabbit gun. I always shot mine with iron sights as I didn't like the then existing mounting system. I had a Williams peep on it. That 5mm pellet is a real killer it weigh what the 22 does but penetrates due to the smaller caliber. Sheridan never offered the 22 until they...

I think there was a thread on Cangunnuts, it basically said that after firing 45lc they had the first 454 load split right down the base. Like a piece of chopped wood. There were a number of other possibilities as to why it happened, but fouling from dirty light loads was one of them. It isn't a hea...

I'm currently buying a 454. The 454 is about the same overlength to the LC as the 357 is to the 38 sp, and the 44 mag to the 44sp. The one problem that seems to maybe exist is that in order to shoot CASS, the lowest pressure 45lc loads are so low pressure they often don't seal the chamber, and I hav...

English isn't the official language of the U.S. as I understand it. If that is true then there isn't any right to require people to fit in by speaking English though they would be foolish not to, to some extent. The reality is the West decided it would skip a generation of hard work. Not raise repla...

I have no idea, but the deal with roles these days is that they develop the personality in everything right down to the buttons. The day of a guy using the same rig for very different roles is over. So as long as he keeps making movies he is going to keep getting guns at a rate and of a type that ha...

You could have pulled a muscle etc... you can also hurt your neck and get pain under the rear shoulder blade.

After decades of ISU shooting, I'm on the one hand pretty devoted to the sling, though on the other fairly happy with my offhand, or unsupported positions. Sure a sling is always better, in certain regards but i'm not shooting 60 shots in the field, at paper, I can normally hold it together without ...

I was thinking of the Marlin 1894, 44, and using it mostly with 44 Special. Is there any problem shooting these in the long chambers of the 44 mag? It is only a 1/8" difference, or could one set the barrel back? What about the 1/38 rifling.

Epoxies are a far better fit with wood than accraglass (can't say about accrabond), or bondo. AG works as a bedding material because it is held in by the action bolts. You wouldn't want to glue you aicraft capspar down with the stuff. I'm assuming here it is still the stuff that requires a catalyst ...

I do remember reading a book by one of the more successful black powder guys, back when they were shooting ping pong sized balls. Here is Turnbull taking a shot at SD numbers, just for interest. http://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4711043/m/458108567/p/1 That 510 bullet should be fine. The Magic numbers of 2150 fps, 45 cal, and 500 grain SD, over .3 (minus .02-.03 if mono non-lead solid), with 5000 Foot Poun...

You can find the elephant article on the Leverguns home site. That was a mono solid out of a 50AKl. But it was more a hunting article than a DG stopping article.

I agree with you on most of those points. That is why I think the 510 is the way to go, mono solids as you say probably do queer the 475 numbers. But face it, the main African crowd doesn't deserve to be swayed yet. And practically speaking won't be. The reality is that levers aren't really combat g...

OK, tracked down some stuff Doug had on another site, and he is trying to nail the SD part of the DG cartridge requirement. So he has a rifle that does all the parts of the traditional requirements for a DG riffle. Problem with 458s in a lever is that the buttet gets too long and pushes far enough b...

I really enjoyed that article, but I came away thinking the cartridge really hadn't gained any ground. I was actually thinking about a similar project myself because the 50s are getting harder and harder to get supplies out of the US for. So I had dreamt up this idea of a 470 Polar Express, named af...
