Re: Traveling with firearms
For over twenty years before I moved to Wyoming, I would drive there from California to hunt elk. I usually took two rifles as did my brother. The trip was 900 miles. We usually stayed in Las Vegas or Provo for a night and always took our rifles into the hotel room. Leaving them in a vehicle in the ...

New to me Winchester
After the post about commemoratives, I bid on GB for a Legendary Lawman. No one was bidding on it. Pics were horrible and it looked beat. I emailed the seller. He assured me it was like new and possibly unfired. He was selling it for a third party. He was also a LEO from a neighboring agency I used ...

We have 3 that we loan out at our gunclub. Most people don't use any weight and it still takes out much of the recoil. They weigh about 7-10 lbs. A 25 lb barbell weight fits in it perfect, or a couple sandbags. I've never heard of a stock getting cracked. It does add an inch or so to the stock lengt...

They told me they have 325gr Solid Brass FP rounds. I don't know much about brass rounds for elk but I assume they penetrate well. I think I'll use the leverevolution rounds and wait for the 400 grain ones.

45-70 Hunting Ammo
I always alternate my elk hunting rifles between a Tikka 30-06 and Marlin 45-70. I like both but in Grizzley country I like the 45-70. I don't reload. I've used 325 gr Leverevolution ammo successfully on 3 elk. With the ammo shortage, dealers were asking up to $120 a box! I searched and found Steine...

But I have a question....I thought the LL was first made on 1977. How is ser# 000 made in 1978...or am I missing something?

I hunt elk and antelope. I use a Tikka T3 lite 30-06 with a Leupold VX3 and a Marlin 45-70 with a quick release Leupold scout scope. Never understood the need for magnums in heavy timber out here.
