Re: Winchester 94 AE Trapper .357 Mag.
I owned the 94ae trapper in 357. I loved that rifle. It was very accurate and handled beautifully. But, it had the loading gate issues as described and broke making the rifle usable only as a single shot. I couldn't find a gunsmith able to fix it and couldn't get parts for it anymore(2years ago). I'...

New to me 94ae, a beauty but I struggle loading
So I have been waiting and waiting (2years)for a used 357 lever to come in to any of the LGSs that I frequent. Finally, a beautiful, pristine Winchester 94ae was traded in and I snatched it up.It must not have seen more than 50 rounds. I love this thing. It feeds 38 and 357 no problem. Despite what ...

Re: Accurate .22 pistol?
I, too, like the Ruger but have been abundantly pleased with my Browning Buckmark Camper. Accurate, reliable and I prefer the grip angle over that of the Ruger.

Re: Hornady 150 gr rn and unique
For 'bout 5 decades I've used 9grs Unique and a 150 cast. Never jacketed. Faster velocities with cast, less bore wear, cheaper and just all around better than jacketed at slow(er) velocities. 2x22 My next purchase will be of some cheap cast bullits but I didn't have access to any at the time I purc...

Re: Hornady 150 gr rn and unique
Bulldog87, I have used 8 grs. of Unique with a 110 gr jacketed bullet in the 30-30 which gives close to 1,500 f.p.s. with very good accuracy. Using the same powder charge with a 150 gr. jacketed bullet, the velocity would be somewhere around 1,250 - 1,300 f.p.s. or so which should work aok. I would...

Re: Hornady 150 gr rn and unique
Definately looking for a light load for plinking. Does someone's recipe for 150gr cast apply or does the plated bullet need its own? Can you use the csst bullet recipe as a starting point? Thanks to all, BD87 Plated? Who makes a plated .30 150 gr. bullet? You don't mean jacketed, do you? I don't li...

30-30 light load,newb?
I have tried to find a good answer to my question but can't find any thread that previously covers it, so here it is... Can you either buy or reload a 30-30 round that shoots (recoil) like a .357 or .45 carbine? I have young teens that are not ready for the full kick from the standard 30-30 round. T...

Re: buying a used lever/ newb ?
OK guys! I got a Glenfield 30-30. Its not the one with the rust and pitting but this one has a great frame and barrel without the pitting. Its furniture needs just a bit of attention but for $200, I think I prefer a worn stock to the pitted barrel. Here's the question. It is not marked with "mi...

Re: buying a used lever/ newb ?
Thanks to all for the feedback. I was hoping to maintain continuity of ammo as I have a 357 revolver, but you all made some very convincing arguments for the 30-30. If I do get the Glenfield, I'll post some pix as required. Maybe you can give me pointers on how to clean it up and refurb it. BD87

buying a used lever/ newb ?
I am knew to the forum and lever guns. I would truly love to find a nice used 357 reasonably priced but my research has shown them to be rather rare. I may have to settle for now on a 30-30 for budget reasons. What should I look out for? Anything to avoid? I have my eye on a Glenfield that seems in ...
