Sixgun, Nice work. :D Are you experiencing any throat leading? Awhile back a friend who also had accuracy problems with the same rifle eventually found that the original .45 Colt .456" bullet size tightened groups right up for him. I don't remember what powder or charge weight he used. w30wcf

Re: modern ammo in an 1892 Winchester

Yes, modern Cowboy type loads are safe in your original '73 since pressures do not exceed b.p. pressures. I have a '73 .44-40 made in 1883 and to date it has digested about 3,000 reloads, 2000 smokeless and about 1000 b.p. Also consider the fact that starting in the mid 1890's the factories offered ...

454424 or Lee 255 for the SA

For b.p. in the rifle......
First 3 - Swiss or Olde Enysford for no foul out and repeatable accuracy
Last 2 - Any b.p.

The only way I can see that happening is that the die & top punch are not in true alignment. If you are using a top punch (SWC) that is larger than the bullet nose that is likely the problem. Are you pre seating the gas checks? Does he ejector pin come up high enough so that the bullet sits soli...
