How I am feeling today!

Post by Ms Boots »

Its just how I am feeling today! Time to strap on my new leather... head out with Dances with Wolves and Cayenne, herd up the ponies and see what adventure I can find in this cotton pickin wind howling 40 plus gusts! At least its 60, wind chill wont be bad! :)

When I am an old horsewoman

I shall wear turquoise and diamonds,

And a straw hat that doesn’t suit me

And I shall spend my social security on

white wine and carrots,

And sit in my alleyway of my barn

And listen to my horses breathe.

I will sneak out in the middle of a summer night

And ride the old bay gelding,

Across the moonstruck meadow

If my old bones will allow

And when people come to call, I will smile and nod

As I walk past the gardens to the barn

and show instead the flowers growing

inside stalls fresh-lined with straw.

I will shovel and sweat and wear hay in my hair

as if it were a jewel

And I will be an embarrassment to all

Who will not yet have found the peace in being free

to have a horse as a best friend

A friend who waits at midnight hour

With muzzle and nicker and patient eyes

For the kind of woman I will be

When I am old.

Dang Blaine, you are in touch with your feminine side.
Seriously, my younger cousin, not quite old yet (especially if you ask her), fits that description to a T. I'm gonna find that on a website and send it to her.

In the latest Sherlock Holmes movie he made the very accurate statement that horses are dangerous at both ends and trecherous in the middle. I hold by that observation. - Brian

Thanks Blaine, I liked that so much I sent it to my sister in Oregon. She is a horse person.

Just for info, there is no beast so treacherous as a mean mule. Much smarter than a horse and they live to be 40+ so an old one can have a lot of experience. But l like mules, you get a horse trained to about where you want him and he is old and dies. The mule you just learn to put up with and a couple of them will last you a lifetime.

And unlike a horse, they can kick out to the side... gettin' ya in what would be the "safe" zone around a horse.

Yep. Friend of mine put me on his best horse once. He said it ain't scared of nothin', even uses it to hunt mountain lion. He forgot to mention how it felt about butterflies. He thought it was funny, I didn't.

There is something deeply relaxing about lingering in the barn on a snowy winter night, when the stalls have been cleaned and freshly bedded, and the horses are contentedly munching away at their hay, the chores are all done, but there is no rush to get back to the house.
