This isn't what I call the first version Contender . I always called the first version the ones with the kinda crossbolt firing pin selector . I had one of those for awhile with a 444 Marlin barrel that was made by a fellow in Idaho who's name escapes me at the moment . I've not loaded for a 44 MAG...

Yea I first tried the 17 HMR and got sick of having to adjust for a 10 mph breeze at 50-60yds. I got the WMR and it just whallops what ever I shoot. Very impressive performance for a rimfire. Personally, I think it sounds VERY reasonable. You can even load it with flat nose 30-30 bullets, to insure expansion at slower speeds. I would LOVE one of those. Looks like their version of the Browning BLR. I wonder which is the better rifle? I did the same thing with my 30-06 - used Speer 170 gr...

If the shininess bothers you that much, you can wrap it with camo tape (the non-sticky kind) like archers use.
