Thanks, all, for the birthday wishes. I wife gave me a pair of wonderful hand-crafted moccasins, made by the Huron Indians of Wendake, Quebec, Canada. They feel so good, I want to go to sleep with them on tonight, but I won't.

Call me unreasonable, but I weigh every single charge for all my cartridges and calibers, unless I'm loading up a pile of 45 ACP. I use the Hornady Lock n Load powder measure, but I still weigh every charge.

Enjoyed those photos, Nath. I am amazed that hunting with a catapult is legal there. I suppose there are no restrictions as to how large? I think I'd want something that could launch about 1,000 pounds of rocks, each the size of a grapefruit, so I'd have a better chance of hitting a fox at 100 yards...

I should emphasize that I use single-ply toilet paper. If one uses the standard, double ply, then a half sheet might be plenty. Having said that, if even that looks like too much, then use less. The main thing is to use it as a filler (loosely rolled and folded), not a plug that holds the powder tig...

single sheet of single ply toilet paper In what cartridge do you use a full sheet? I'm loading a 45-75 for my Uberti 76, and I was using a chunk not much bigger than my thumb. Does the TP need to be packed tight? I use it as filler to fill the empty space in 38-55, 45-60, 45-70 and 45-90. I take a ...

A question came up in our family a while back after the death of one of our well-loved dogs. The answer we came up with can be stated nicely by the author of a book I cam...

Re: 5744
I have found that IMR 4227 and 5744 have virtually identical burn rates in the original black powder calibers that I use them in. What I mean by that is that the same weight will give the same velocity. There is a caveat, however. In the bigger cartridges, IMR 4227 is very position sensitive. For th...

Well, I like how grandpa got a deer and that is the way I hunt. Here is an example of a nice doe I collected with my original Winchester Model 1873 shipped in 1889, loaded with cast bullets that came out the barrel at a paltry 1,300 fps. One shot, went right through broadside. The hole you see in th...

I use a tang sight on one of my 30-30's and shoot full power loads through it. Haven't had a problem, but I did tap my right glass lens a couple times with the tang sight on my Browning 1886 SRC 45-70. After replacing the scratched lens, I now make a habit of not letting my face creep up to the sigh...

It is true that powder is produced here in Canada, but for some lunatic reason I was told it is shipped in bulk to the USA where it is packaged in plastic bottles and then shipped back to Canada. earlmck: Was that quick load done with the longer Starline cases? That is what I am using. I have considered IMR 3031, but I am getting awful E.S. with IMR 3031 with my 30-30 loads and figured it would give me pretty poor E.S. with my 38-55. I love the metering of RL-7.

Thanks, Vancelw, for those results for IMR 4198. Those are pretty stout loads. I thought I'd start with RL-7, rather than go straight to IMR 4198, because RL-7 is a bit slower powder, almost but not quite as slow as IMR 3031. If I can get what I want with RL-7, I may stay there, otherwise, I'll try ...

I've been sitting on my own private stash of home-made 38-55 bullets for years. These are 250 grain JFP, swaged to .377, made by a former Leverguns member with the handle 'Stone Fence'.
