Our NH deer season starts November 13th. I'll be sighting in a 1940 Model 64 in 32ws with an original tang sight and a mid-60's Sako L-579 in .308 wearing a Leupold 3.5-10 scope....2 of my favorite rifles and calibers. I used to use 220 Core-Lokts for the short time I hunted with an '06 in AK. Malamute was right about why. This past year I sent my last boxes back to AK to a Forum member there. We have a LGS in the next town that has had a good supply of brand ammo you generally don't find at WalMart, e.g. .22 Horn...

You can't use GoreTex and be quiet! Look at Peter Storm breathable rain gear. If it's still made and the same as it was years ago it is very quiet and excellent protection. Or, camo fleece with a waterproof/breathable membrane. I can't recommend a brand but I'd start by looking on the Cabelas' websi...

What oil finishes are you considering? This is a new product with Winchester stain mixed in with the oil: http://www.oldwestsnakeoil.com/ I have used the Original Old West Snake Oil and it is excellent! Very nice Victor! Were the 9422's ever made with the long wood ahead of the band, like earlier 94's? Years ago I had a buddy that had a 9422 mag, it was a very slick operating gun, and fun to shoot. Great 9422 saddle ring photos! When I walk in the woods my first choice of rifle to carry is a Winchester Model 94 Trapper. When the grandkids are ready the Model 9422 and 94 Trappers will be the rifles they move up to from the Cricket Youth .22 they are learning on now. They can't wait!!! Coming back from the doctors this morning I stopped at the smaller of our two LGSs a couple towns away. He had an excellent supply of ammo including 22LR, 22 Hornet, 218 Bee, .223, all pistol calibers except 9 mm, and every centerfire rifle caliber I looked for, including more than a few boxes of .3...

I have not used this ammo...I just bought some in .308...but take a look at Remington's "Managed Recoil" ammunition in 30-06. You should get very good performance out beyond 100 yards. Your heavier 30-06 rifle will absorb a lot more recoil than your 30-30 carbine, too. Also, your shoulder ...
