Finishes and Coatings for SS parts on a levergun.

Most SS finishes look more "painted". Does anyone know of a SS finish or coating for my barrel that will match the Reciever blueing? My only other option is to go nickle.

Re: TOP SECRET-Barrel diameter of an 1895 cowboy

I'm having most of the work done by Mic Mcpherson. I'm not sure which barrel he went with, but It's being shaped by a guy in Wy. I'll get some more specifics and post them tomorrow. The barrel will be stainless. Then I'll have the entire gun coated at the nickle place Mic sends his stuff to. I'd lik...

Re: TOP SECRET-Barrel diameter of an 1895 cowboy

Thanks for the constructive replies. I look foreword to the info when someone has time to measure theirs. Mr. Wiedner; If there is an easier way of getting this info I'd welcome the knowledge. Maybe I'm just too new at this game to know all of my avenues, but I don't have a caliper, I don't have my ...

TOP SECRET-Barrel diameter of an 1895 cowboy

Hello all. I am having a custom Octagonal barrel built for my 1895. I want to build it as large as possible without exceeding the outside diameter of the receiver that it will mount to. Is there anyone who can tell me what the cowboy barrel measures at the receiver and at the muzzle (for taper)? Doe...

Advise for custom Marlin 1895 furniture

I want to put some beautiful custom wood on my Marlin. I've found a black walnut blank that I like, but I'm not sure if it is a good idea for me to take on a project like that. I'm good with my hands, but I've never fit a wood to a gun. Is it very difficult, or does anyone know of someone that sells...

Marlin 1895 crescent style buttplate

I would love to find a buttplate to add to my 1895 build, but I would like to find an original that was manufactured before 1900. Is there any such thing? Does anyone know of any sources to find something like that or is that a bad idea and should I just stick with a current replica? Thanks for any ...

Re: Ruger SBH custom builders?

44mag. Well I don't have a particular load in mind, but I do want it a little heavy and very fast, but most of all very accurate. I would mind a pistol smith giving me some advise and then building it. My idea is to be able to do some very long range silhouette.

Ruger SBH custom builders?

There are many leversmiths who can turn my Marlin 1895 into an incredibly heavy hitting tackdriver. Are there any pistol smiths that can do the same for my Ruger Super Black Hawk? I like my pistol, but I have been very dissapointed in its accuracy. Thanks for any imput.

Marlin Serial Number HELP!

I found a Marlin that I like in a 45-70. It is a straight grip 1895. The buyer told me the serial# is B0075NN but I can find no indication that it is a valid SN. I'm just trying to find out what year it was made. Any Ideas? Thanks

Re: Uberti 1885 High Wall 45-70

I wanted the Uberti, but the Uberti/Barreta rep that I spoke to told me they are designed for BLACK POWDER cartridges only. I was about to go to the Browning 1886, but every lever action gunsmith I spoke to told me that the Marlin had the strongest action. So.. I'm building a custom gun from the mar...

Re: Pre Safety Marlin 1895 45-70

Yea, I'm not sure that I have to have a 30 incher, but I know that I want it longer than a majority of long guns produced in a repeater so it will at least 28. I have seen archives of a few long range lever actions (ie 1873) and that is really my style, so although I realize its not as popular, if i...

Re: Pre Safety Marlin 1895 45-70

Yea, I've looked at the Winchesters and Brownings. I really like the browning 1886, but for the custom work I want to do, all the gunsmiths and custom gun builders tell me to start with Marlin because they have better parts availability and are stronger and more dependable. Is there such a thing? I've done a lot of research and because of its strong actions I'm trying to find a Marline 1895 in a 45-70 but I don't want one with all of the current safety garbage. Does anyone know about what year it started? thanks
