Ruger SBH custom builders?
There are many leversmiths who can turn my Marlin 1895 into an incredibly heavy hitting tackdriver. Are there any pistol smiths that can do the same for my Ruger Super Black Hawk? I like my pistol, but I have been very dissapointed in its accuracy. Thanks for any imput.

There are many, and a few of the better known Ruger smiths that come to mind are Hamilton Bowen, Gary Reeder, and David Clements. You may try the Ruger forum or single-action forum. There several links here:

You could save on shipping and send it with my rifle to Clements

Check out Bowen Classic Arms.
They do amazing stuff.
My SBH had almost no finish and some other issues, though was always accurate.
But they will be able to assess the problem and offer a fix.

Can you be more specific? What caliber? What loads? Cast, jacketed, etc... Thanks, 1886.ob1coby wrote:There are many leversmiths who can turn my Marlin 1895 into an incredibly heavy hitting tackdriver. 44mag. Well I don't have a particular load in mind, but I do want it a little heavy and very fast, but most of all very accurate. I would mind a pistol smith giving me some advise and then building it. My idea is to be able to do some very long range silhouette.
Re: Ruger SBH custom builders?
If you want to go the custom revolver route, there are lots of choices. I have had great luck with Jack Huntington of Grass Valley, Ca. Other members have and will continue to mentioned their choices. One can buy revolvers set up for your requirements. Freedom Arms comes to mind. Dan Wesson Co. had some success in the silhouette game. Magnum Research offers their B.F.R. line. The B.F.R. line has a great reputation for accuracy. The J.T. prefix guns should be considered. There are others. John Taffin has written a couple of good, very informative books regarding big bore hand guns and their application/uses. Regards, 1886.

OK Here's what you do. Pack it up and send it to John Linebaugh for one of his "little 45" conversions. He'll ream it out to tight 45 Colt chambers and fit a custom barrel blank to it, slick it up and send it back to you. You'll have a sixgun capable of launching 300 grain projectiles far faster than most folks can handle accurately. And best of all it'll be in a REAL caliber. Yeah, the 44's OK - but it's not up to the hand loaded 45 Colt for hard hitting long range power.
Or you can send it off to Clements, Bowen, et al. One place to check would be to simply check the chamber throats and the barrel's inside dimensions. If you've tight chamber throats and loose bore then you're going to have serious accuracy issues. Also, check and see if you have a barrel constriction at the barrel/frame juncture.
Take an oversize round lead ball (like for muzzle loading) and push it through the barrel, muzzle to breech. Take another and push it through 2/3 or so of the way and then back out the muzzle. Take six more and push them through the chambers on the cylinder, lining them up in order. Now measure them with a micrometer to see what the diameters are.
If the cylinder has tight chamber mouths then you can send it off to http://www.cylindersmith.com and he'll be glad to ream them out to proper dimensions for you. He does great work and has a fast turn around time. Details can be found on the website. This is probably the single most cost effective thing you can do - if you've got tight chamber mouths.
