Re: Why the popularity of AR-15 rifle series?
Let's see where my Commander in Chief takes this anti-gun thing to next, it's created a heck of a black gun rush as stated here. I have a complete lower receiver at the house that I was meaning to finish, I'm thinking somebody is crazy enough to do an even trade for a Turnbull 1886, I will also cons...

Re: Why the popularity of AR-15 rifle series?
Agree, nothing magical about them, they are just good tools and make it easy for the non-practicing rifleman. My Marines and Sailors carry M4's out here all day long but some of us still make time to go down to where the scout snipers are holed up to see their toys. They have the Knight's Armament S...

Re: Happy Birthday NavyDMO
Thank you very much fellows for the well wishes. This deployment has been tougher than usual, I've been away from home since July and for the entire holiday season, now including my 44th birthday, I'll be coming home soon though. Morale is high out here, the Marines are always a professional bunch, ...

Re: Colt commercial 1911/45
jeepnik is right, those are old in the military and were used with the 1911 quite often. I'm in Afghanistan now and that's what I was issued along with the M9 but we use it with the flap. On my previous deployment I bought the shoulder conversion for it but it was not very comfortable so I just bit ...

Re: Anyone familiar with Ed LaPour Gunsmithing in WA?
Yes I know him, very nice guy. I went to his shop a few times when I lived in the Bremerton a couple of years back. He fixed a Freedom Arms 454 for me. He did the rifle for the gunsmith's guild in 2000 I think and it is beautiful. He also showed me (and my buddy SubDoc from this website who was ther...

Re: Any levergunners in the N.C. area?
I'm in Jacksonville by Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune on the eastern coast close to Wilmington. I was well on my way into levergunning addiction with a Marlin guide gun and a Henry .22 for the kids until some imbecil broke in and cleaned me out. Insurance had a $2,000 cap so roughly 20% of what was ...

Re: Marlin forends annoy me
I don't know the answer but I share your sentiment. My guide gun is the same way. I also have a very difficult time putting the screws back in the cap since they dont line up very well from the wod pushing it forward. Hopefully someone will have some recommendations.

Re: 475 Turnbull vs. 45-70 quote
Man those are some powerful loads. Even a 405gr at 1600fps through my marlin guide gun jumps pretty good. I prefer to shoot the same bullet at 1350fps.
I'm trying to figure out a good 45-70 load for pigs. I want them to take the hit and stay put. Do I need to load up?

Re: OT - Rules of Engagement
This is funny!! JReed is closest to the truth. I'm currently in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. You did forget the Harriers though, and the F18s are coming from the aircraft carrier. The 155mm 777 by the way is something that needs to be experienced. Even...
