Just looked up Hornady superperformance 165's for both and with roughly +/-140 fps apart , I doubt anything less than 300 yards away will know the difference. :D
I'm sure if you got into 200+ grain loads more of a gap exists.

Mike, if you want to borrow and make your own, I have a 31141 Hp mold roughly 172 grains lubed and checked straight wheel wieghts. Never shot anything with it yet though. Byron I had the 311041 HP mold for awhile as well . With plain old WW alloy I needed to size at .312" or I'd bump the noce ...

Mike, if you want to borrow and make your own, I have a 31141 Hp mold roughly 172 grains lubed and checked straight wheel wieghts. Never shot anything with it yet though.

I would guess reloader 7 or imr 4198, but only a guess in short barrels. No proof.
Anything faster burning than 3031 couldn't hurt.

My Win.94AE Trapper in 30-30 liked the 170 grain bullet better than anything els e, didn't keep that Trapper because it had misfire issues. Sent it back to Winchester twice and to one LGS gunsmith, no go, still misfired. Read somewhere that some had issues with the lighter firing pin that the AE's ...

When I get time to work up a load it's going to be my 94 .307AI. Put a Redfield wide angle accutrac 2-7 scope. Hoping for 2,650 with nosler 170 partitions or 2,700+ with hornady ftx bullets.

I just checked its been a little over 3 years since Paco has posted.
As far as the advice on the old Colts or Smiths, Sixguns advice can be considered close to gospel. :D
