Re: Will a one piece firing pin fix light strikes problem?
That still doesn't explain why headspacing on the shoulder didn't stop it.

Re: Will a one piece firing pin fix light strikes problem?
Scotch tape was added till the bolt would barely close on a new case. A bullet was pulled with an inertia puller so the rim thickness varies from .059 and .062.
The tape thickness was .010, which makes it borderline max on headspace.

Re: Will a one piece firing pin fix light strikes problem?
I took a new case, measured all around the rim and used the lowest setting. .062 primer extrusion on used primer.. According to that headspace should be ok

Re: Will a one piece firing pin fix light strikes problem?
Soaked the stripped bolt for days and used a brush and pipe cleaner. Can't be that. New main spring and two washers. New rear pin Everything smoothed up Changed lever Took hammer spur off Mostly concerned with poor headspace even though the pin can be pushed to outer bolt rim. Sized brass on shoulde...

Re: Marlin 336rc 30/30 value
Yes it is a 4x meant for a .22 rimfire but will tolerate the 30/30's recoil according to Bushnell.

Re: Marlin 336 30/30 front firing pin length?
The main spring, leaf spring, and rear firing pin, and ejector were replaced. The rear pin and top of loading block were polished. The bolt locks into position normally. I tried neck sizing brass. So far lots of misfires, 4 in a row when smith tried it. He didn't fit the extractor, so the cartridges...

Anyone know how long it is? Still having misfires and don't want to by one if not necessary. Thanks.

Re: How about Ruger's new rifle?
I've had 3 tang model Rugers and no complaints. It sounds like the higher priced models aren't selling so why not just lower the price and sell more of them? The older action doesn't promote accuracy so it will be interesting to see what this new one will do.

The first three that came to mind were
Shane
The Big Land or Country with Gregory Peck
These Thousand Hills
Dances with Wolves
Some of Roy Rogers (Leonard Slye) and the Sons of the Pioneers songs
And others

Federal 510's are still $1.47 or about 1.77 at Walmart. No change.

Re: Marlin 336 RC misfire fix?
Update,
It looks like some CCI primers were too hard. Had a misfire in a M70 too. The rear pin in the 336 was peened and dragging so I smoothed it up. Winchester primers seem to be ok, but I haven't shot it enough to tell if the fix is complete.

Re: COST OF 22 RIMFIRE
I bought a lot of Federal Champions at Walmart in Kewanee IL for 1.28/50. They raised it to $1.67. In Peoria, it was $1.47/50. Guess they thought they could gouge me. I hope it is still 1.28 in Florida. The 1.67 stuff can sit there.
The price of metal is going down.

Re: Marlin 336 RC misfire fix?
It looks like there might have been some crud in the bolt after all. It fired 6 out of 7 times yesterday. Next time I take the bolt out I'll soak the end in Hoppes #9. The firing pin is still hanging up a little bit.
It's nice to know how the bolt works. Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: Marlin 336 RC misfire fix?
My 2005 vintage 1894 Cowboy .45 Colt has a problem with the rear firing pin as well. What is happening is that with the lever closed the locking bolt is putting so much pressure on the rear f.p. that sometimes the hammer just can't hit it hard enough to fire the round. All springs are factory OEM. ...

Re: Marlin 336 RC misfire fix?
I took the firing pin out and everything was clean. Thanks for explaining how the back pin works. The coil spring and everything else looks original. I haven't altered anything. The 30/30 headspaces on the rim so I can't see how reloads would cause a problem with headspace. The rifle looks like new,...

Marlin 336RC misfires and now bolt won't close
Hi, The rear pin in the bolt seems to be pointed down too far and the firing pin doesn't hit the primer hard enough. I've never done anything to the spring. I took the extractor and ejector out and the bolt won't close. About 1/4" short. I've never gone beyond taking the bolt out, even though I...

Marlin 336 RC misfire fix?
Hi, I picked up a 1968 30/30 in EC condition that misfires. The rear firing pin is pushed down so far from the spring that it hits the bolt and not the firing pin. Is this a common problem with 336's? Did Marlin come up with a "fix" for it? One other shooter tried a new spring which didn't...
