Marlin 336RC misfires and now bolt won't close

Post by ba_50 »

Hi,

The rear pin in the bolt seems to be pointed down too far and the firing pin doesn't hit the primer hard enough. I've never done anything to the spring.

I took the extractor and ejector out and the bolt won't close. About 1/4" short. I've never gone beyond taking the bolt out, even though I have directions. Other than an obstruction what else could it be? Update: the back rollpin protruded slightly, that is what prevented the bolt from going forward.

I plan on taking some guns to a smith so I will most likely let him worry about it. Still like to ask though.

Thanks.

Ed, Are you shooting reloads? If the sizing or seating isn't just right your bolt may not close without a little extra force. Disassembly is very easy. I'd try it before taking it to a smith. Did the gun just start doing this of late? Ammo brand? New bullet? Will it close without a round inthe chamber? I've had similar issues and it was due to resizing.

I'm not the one having trouble. I just didn't want Terry's perfectly good setup hanging out there so long without a reply.
