Winchester 94 stock a bit loose

Post by TooTech »

The stock on the Winchester 94 I recently purchased has a tiny bit of front and back play in it. It's solid side to side, but when I picked up the rifle by the buttstock with the muzzle pointed down I could feel the stock slip just a fraction.

If it makes any difference the rifle was made in 1979.

Should I tighten the tang screw a smidge? Or maybe add a splinter of wood to the hole through the stock where the tang screw fits? Any other ideas?

Puh yer stock up tight against the receiver & tighten that stock screw. Make sure you use a hollow ground driver that fits. Lastly get some good tung oil in the wood to bring the moisture back up, sounds like she be a mite dry. Don't oil the inside where the wood where it contacts the tang.

Got my Brownell's screwdriver set out. 10 degrees of rotation and the screw and stock are tight. Thanks Griff!
