Marlin XLR in .45-70

Post by Slick13 »

Anyone have any comments on this rifle? I'm thinking of trading my Remington 1100 Sporting 28 in on one. I would like a big bore lever, but a 300 gr. .45 cal bullet at 1500 to 1600 fps is more than I'll ever need in PA. Maybe one in .30-30 to go along with my pre-64 carbine?

Thanks,

~Michael

I have had one, 45-70, for at least twelve months

If you buy one, you won't regret it

Mine is definitely a keeper with NO bad habits

Cheers

The biggest surprise for me when I got mine was how well it handled,
I'd say do it.

I bought one with the intention of converting it to 50AK. Took it to the range and took along a box of WW 300gr JHP ammunition. Ran a patch down the bore, fired one shot at the gongs to foul it and proceeded to put the next 5 into a 1.25" group. Iron Sights!!!. Went and bought another one for conversion to 50AK as the first one shot so well. :D

I bought one a couple years back. I've hunted elk two years with it and now my 7mm rem mag sits in my safe. I did have it cut to a 20" barrel and it handles great and is very accurate. You can order it with a limbsaver recoil pad also which makes it a joy to shoot.
