O T - A senseless murder

Post by gunslinger598 »

Several days ago I was informed by a friend that her best friends son was beaten so severely by 3 unknown men that the family should prepare for the worst. There was a witness but the assailants are unknown.

After a few days on life support he was suspected to be brain dead and medication was stopped to see if they could get any reaction. When it was decided there was no hope they left him on life support so that family and friend could pay last respects.

This young man was 29 years old. I have no other information as to how the incident took place or other circumstances.

My friend had known this man his entire life. Her parents were referred as Gramma & granpa by him.

I lived in the town this took place for 23 years before relocating here to Oklahoma.

I've been talking to my sons encouraging them to get their ccw. They know they should but for some reason I just can't emphasize the importance enough that they go ahead. I've had mine for a while now

While I lived in the town that this took place back in 91 I also witnessed an event very similar. About 11 pm there was a great commotion outside in the street. I looked out and several people were beating my neighbors son who was right about the same age as the victim in the other incident. Of course I called police right away. I went out side and the gangsters started throwing huge rocks at me and pulled a gun and told me get inside or die. This was during a a time in my life I did not own a firearm of any kind. Mean while they were using rocks to throw on this victims head. It took the police 40 minutes to get there. This was in the city limits of a med size town with the population of about 100k. Fortunately this victim did not die. But he was never the same mentally either.

This recent incident is on crime stoppers in that town now. I hope one of the scum bags rats out on the others. It appears that is the only lead they may get.

This has been weighing heavy on my mind since I heard about it the following morning.
I just am not going anywhere unarmed. I live in a very rural setting of a village of less than 100 people. The town 12 miles away is about 5500 population. There are the same problems as a big city just on a smaller scale

Sorry to hear it. I hope he was an organ donor. At least somthing "good" could come of it.

Also glad to hear you are also cognizant of the realities of evil and are willing/capable of making the Badguys into organ donors.

Please convey our sympathies to the family of this young man.

And keep working on your sons. If they knew the victim, perhaps it will sink in that they are responsible for their own safety.

I can no longer run, I am too old for a fist fight, there is but one other response...

Prayers said for all concerned. Yes, for all, just different results requested.

I'm currently walking-through the CCW requirements with my company's dispatcher (a single woman living alone). Just yesterday I told her, "I'm 54 and no longer in fighting trim. It's an old saw in the firearms community but still just as true today: 'God made some men big and some men small...Colonel Colt made them even'."

Reaaly sad to hear. My prayers for the family.

There is some truth to the old saying,"Never pick a fight with an old man. He'll just killya." Modern prisons are that much different than old folks homes.

I live 7 miles from a 500 people town, mostly gravel roads between here and there, and it's 20 miles to Abilene, Ks, all but 2 miles are highway driving. Out here in the country you sort of take things for granted, thinking you're safe. I have plenty of firepower, but often I'm outside and a firearm is quite a ways off from my grasp. I needed this post, to remind of having safety a little closer if needed. Thugs could pull up to the house sometime with intent to do harm, a guy could be a setting duck if they got between you and the iron.

Sorry to hear about this and I hope that more folks will realize that the police cannot protect you from a crime of violence. It does seem that some are beginning to see that they have to take care of themselves and their own. My son's friend is a nurse and very anti gun. There has been several times that her co-workers have had problems with thugs at night. one day she asked my son to take her to the range and teach her to shoot. She now owns a new Rossi .38 snub nose and is talking about taking the CCW class.

I just received word that the murder has been positively identified but not yet apprehended.

The motive seems to be jealousy. The killer is also a known drug dealer and police want him off the street anyway.

For now that is all I know, I haven't heard anymore about the other two suspects or if first reports weren't completely accurate

I lost my 16 year-old son last year - he was hit by a car on his bicycle right in front of my house. My son was on life support for two days while Gift Of Life coordinated the donor surgeries.
I know exactly what that young man's poor parents are going through.
For what it's worth, please let them know that if they need someone to talk to, someone to listen, I'm willing. If they'd be willing to send their e-mail address, we could communicate that way. Just PM or e-mail me.

Why was he on the street to begin with?!?

Sorry to hear about this, and prayers up for the family. Until we, as a society, lose our patience for this kind of stuff it will simply continue and get worse. I lost mine long ago. A short rope and a tree is what these scumbags deserve...

An arrest has been made.

The killer went to the hospital and questioned the mother like an old friend. She didn't know who he was and became suspicious and took notes. She picked out his picture for police. He was the prime suspect. No information on the other two yet.

I have no idea why a known drug dealer was still free. The cat and mouse game until they actually caught him with evidence maybe.

At this point I'm speechless that this killer had the audacity to come to the hospital like that!

I'm in the same boat and for the life of me, I will never understand the vehement oppositon to protecting one's self by those that would benefit most from the protection. Whether women's groups, AARP, or leaders of minority or ethnic groups, the people they are supposed to be representing are being grossly misrepresented. As much respect as I have for law enforcement, all they can guarantee you is that they will bring a nice clean black plastic bag to put your body in. Protect thy self.

Not to hijack this post, but senseless murder seesm to be more the norm these days.

UPDATE: KNOXVILLE MURDER CASE

Last year, Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom of Knoxville, Tennessee, were brutally tortured, raped and murdered. Christian and Newsom were white, and their killers black, hence the dearth of media attention. In his essay, "Murder in Black and White," (http://PatriotPost.US/alexander/edition.asp?id=531), Mark Alexander examines the gruesome details of the case as well as the media's negligence. This week, justice has been delayed in the trial of suspect George Thomas. His trial, which was to begin 11 August, was rescheduled for August 2009 after the request for a speedy trial was dropped. All four defendants
face the death penalty if convicted.

I never could run, now I am too old to fight; so yep, just one other response. As someone once said, I carry a gun 'cause a cop is too heavy. What Hobie said. Glad to hear a suspect has been arrested.

The "Official" charges that have been filed

" Reckless Manslaughter"

It seems like with each development this gets worse.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I have retired from one law enforcement organization and am working for the Government on something similar. I wish there was some way for the victim to come out ahead in something like this but I don’t know what it is. I have been carrying a gun for 35 years on a few different continents and it seems to be the only sure answer. The police are only required to attempt to clean up the aftermath not provide protection. So in an attempt to keep our loved ones safe we are required to lower ourselves to the lowest standard of the 5 % of the population that most people won’t even admit exist. I believe that is best done with a Large Caliber Weapon and accurate aimed fire.
It is not the critic who counts
