Hello, new here
Hello everyone, I am new here but not new to leverguns. I currently have 2 centerfire leverguns, marlins one in 357 and one in 44. I had thoughts of picking up a Rossi in 454 Casull, mostly for hunting. My 44 marlin is one of the older ones with micro groove rifling and it is not the most accurate rifle I have ever had. I have a couple of questions for the experts here.
Is the 454 from a rifle that much more powerful than a 44 mag loaded with an equivalent bullet?
Does the Rossi 92 still use the hourglass shaped firing pin that is prone to breakage?
Thanks,

Welcome Nanuk! Good to have you hear. Can't comment on the 44/454 rifle debate, but there are many here that can.

Welcome to the fire. Someone will come along and answer your 44/454 question that has actual experience, but I'd say it is probably quite noticeable.

The 454 out of my 16" barreled Puma will pick up another 400+/-fps over revolver velocities. To my way of thinking, the 454 out of a revolver is about the same as a 44 mag out of a rifle.
Examples: 44mag 240gr bullet, will out of a carbine, run about 1800fps at full throttle. A 240gr out of a 454 will run about 2200/2300fps at full throttle.
I get 2000fps out of a 300gr bullet in my 16" Puma, the same load in a 20" barrel would probably pick up another 80/100fps. Recoil is uhmmm, noticable
Paco wrote an excellent article for gunblast on the 454 out of a rifle.

Welcome to the fire! Maybe Nate Kiowa Jones can come along and answer your question about the Rossi .454 firing pin. I don't have one, so don't know.

Uh, you need to read The .45 Colt in Leverguns by Paco. It ain't anyone's "weak sister" in a strong action!O.S.O.K. wrote:Well, if you want some real power, getcha a 95 in 45-70 and quit messing around with those pistol rounds![]()

Re: Hello, new here
I have a Marlin CB in 45 Colt and it can push a 300 grain hc bullet to 1600 fps.
I'm just saying that if you want power in a levergun in a factory chambering, then 45-70 is the way-to-go.
Capische?

Re: Hello, new here
Yep, those 500 grainers are mite too big to cycle thru the '92 action.
