.. in my native state approve this at the next election. I wouldn't put it past them. Oregon was once upon a time, a great state politically balanced in moderation and compromise and generally keeping itself out of individuals' lives as well as any other and better than most. But over the past 40 years, the kooks have become ascendant.

Jay, I don't think they are so much "the left" as they are the "bereft of reason" -- just as any extremist group whether far left or far right or any other aggregation of unsound minds seeking to force their beliefs on others.

A little correction about Oregon politics Bill: we didn't do a gradual slide into total Democrat control over the past 40 years like you said. What we did was a sudden drop 25 years ago when we instituted mail-in voting. Hasn't been a Republican win a state-wide race since.

Was it Lenin who said "It's not who votes that counts: its who counts the votes that counts"? Or maybe it was Stalin. One of those fellows said something along those lines. Anyway, it is for sure the far-lefties who control the count in poor old Orygone. Fortunately a fair bunch of them still fish. And eat steak. And might fear an armed populace.
