Marlin 30-30 - 1 Pig - 0

Post by stew71 »

Ahhh....the sweet smell of success. Bagged this sow in the morning at about 75 yards. Head shot. The others were put down after some hard hunting in the afternoon up around Clear Lake, CA on the Guenoc Ranch. Dean and J.T. filled their tags that afternoon after we flushed a herd/flock/gaggle??? of piggies from some manzanita with the help from Ernie's dog. Thanks to Ernie Sanders for a great hunt!!

I've been using Hornady's 30-30 Leverlution round for a couple of years and haven't been able to beat it with anything else. Accurate as all get out. Can't wait to try out the 45-70 load this season in my Marlin Cowboy.

Bacon anyone?

Soweet! ;) Nice shootin.

And its a drift of hogs. Which, when you see a bunch together makes sense.

I guess there's no condors in that area... otherwise you'd be telling us about Barnes Triple Shocks.

Yeah that would be my wife's uncle Dean. He used a 7mm Rem Mag. A bit overkill but then it's the only rifle he owns and he uses it for everything from the occasional prairie dog  all the way up to elk.

Nope...no condors up this far North so none of that silly lead-free bullet business.

Yeah don't get me started on THAT stupid law....

I was at Clearlake in June and loved the area,I saw countless turkeys around
all over, many deer and one big hog spread out on Hwy 20 east of the lake near
Cache Creek.I got to hunt up there some day,its a 9 hour drive so its alittle far.

Wow! Great photo, too!

We used to hunt hogs down near King City. Yum, yum.
