I have a new toy!

Post by fordwannabe »

Hey all, it has been a while since I really posted things on this forum but I have been lurking some. I wasn’t really looking for any new guns. I thought a Henry 1860 repop would be good and I was positive if I got one(which I was pretty sure I wasn’t gonna do) it was going to be in 44wcf. I hadn’t been on Guns international in a couple weeks so I was browsing. BAM a Uberti 1860 in 44wcf for $1500 which is less than I see most of them for. Then the kicker…. FROM THE JOHN TAFFIN collection. What? I called the gun library in Boise Id asked some questions and was told the back story and the Certificate of Authenticity by JT’s daughters …sold. Got it today from the Cabelas in Hamburg. Kinda excited as I grew up on Taffin,Keith, Venturino.

I think you fell into a beauty! I saw a Lyman 200 gr 44-40 mold on ebay yesterday if you need one. Give us a range report when you shoot it please.

Thanks guys! I will have to wait for the weekend to shoot it. I already cast and load for the 44-40 because I have a 1889 Marlin in that caliber so I looked and have a couple hundred loaded BUUUT that bore is .427 ish and these repops are .429 but I can still send a few downrange before I reload some with the bigger bullet.

Kinda OT but it's my thread so here goes. Anybody know a good place to get a decent appropriate sling for this thing? I think a rubber "CLAW" would be SLIGHTLY OUT OF PLACE.

I dont remember where I got it but I have an all leather sling for my Lyman Great Plains , it has a butt cuff that tightens with laces and the muzzle end just chinches up.

I forgot I made a sling swivel base and silver soldered it to one of the ram rod pipes.
See if this might be to your liking Tom
